Please help me with hair colouring

I have not coloured my hair in years and think I need to start now to give my appearance a 'lift'.

I am 33 and pale skinned with yellow tones. I have not got the best complexion and am susceptible to breakouts.

My hair is cut regularly but I cant afford the up keep of professional colouring.

It is shoulder length with long layers throughout. My hair is fine and a light-brown colour. I have dark eyebrows.

My wardobe has neutral colours grey, plum, white, brown and navy. With bright colours red, orange and bright coral pinks.

Do you have any suggestions about products to use or what colour to use?

Hi, was browsing through old posts and saw this one unanswered. Like you I can't afford the expense, or time, to get roots or highlights done but have also discovered that a lot of the semi permanent dyes are only ok if you opt for a couple of shades within your natural colour. I used to have very blonde hair and wanted to lift my currently mousey shade but the few I tried did bugger all.

If you want a 'lift' and just aim to add some oomph though why not experiment a bit with some semi permanents in Boots? Only colour advice I'd offer is not to veer too far from your natural shade! Bit dull I know but lighter won't work at all (I thought it would lift my colour) and too dark may drain.
Lastly, I dye my lashes and wax and dye my brows and it makes a massive difference to my overall appearance.
Good luck!

I agree with babysaurus, how about L'oreal Casting in a honey blonde shade, it will eventually wash out and then you can experiment some more, maye go for a reddish colour, they do a shade called amber too.
I would definitely second the groomed eyebrows and lashes advice too.

Don't go darker unless you really want darker hair, even a mid brown on your colour would come out quite dark.
