For tomorrow (IOW festival)

I'm a festival virgin; over 40, on a best-friends adventure.

So far:
Wellies & lots of socks
Flip flops
Tribal Maxi skirt
Dark t shirts to wear with above
Couple of dresses?
2 Cardies
Denim jacket?

Onesie to sleep in

Dry shampoo
Baby wipes
Bum wipes Hmm
Sunscreen
Lippy

Cagoule

Anything else? Any handy tips?

We're "glamping" in separate site that has its own showers & loos. No doubt these will be minging but not as much as the other ones.

Take nothing that you'd mind losing. And enjoy!

PestoSwimissimos · 13/06/2013 21:27

Flask
Waterproofs

Itchyandscratchy · 13/06/2013 21:28

Oh no! I'm materialistic & shallow. How will I cope?!

What kind of bag/handbag?
Will the overnight bag be safe in the tent?

Ear plugs
Eye mask

Itchyandscratchy · 13/06/2013 21:28

Oh yes, I have heavy-duty ear plugs. Flask s good.
Alcohol?

serengetty · 13/06/2013 21:29

Jeans, trainers, thick hoodie/jumper.

shopafrolic · 13/06/2013 21:34

Surely baby wipes and bum wipes is doubling up for nothing?
Headache tablets!
Toilet roll is essential

OneLittleLady · 13/06/2013 21:34

Pac a mac
sunscreen (even if it's overcast you need it)
dry shampoo
baby wipes
toilet paper/moist toilet tissue
hand sanitizer
packs of pocket tissues
Some kind of hat
lightweight large scarf/pashmina
gloves or fingerless gloves if you can get them
Lip balm is essential, nothing worse than having windburned lips
Hair bands/bobbles/grips (even with dry shampoo your hair will still look shit)
Sunglasses

as for a bag, either a cross body bag or a small rucksack that you keep close to your body. ZIPS are an essential. DO NOT leave any money or valuables in your tent, carry them with you at all times and when going to sleep, put them furtherest away from the tent door, hidden under clothes with you between them and the door.

shopafrolic · 13/06/2013 21:35

Oh and depending how big the site is, take something to tie to the tent so you can identify it when pissed / tired

OneLittleLady · 13/06/2013 21:35

Oh and a fleecy lined hoodie will be your saviour at night when the temperature starts to drop. Layers and more layers are the way to dress for a festival, you wouldn't believe how cold it gets at night

Thesunrising · 13/06/2013 21:37

Long socks to wear with the wellies so you don't get welts on your legs and a pair of leggings to slip on in the evening under skirts, dresses, jeans to stop the cold setting in. Would prob swap one of those cardies for a fleece or hoody - again to keep out the cold at night. A bottle of hand sanitiser is useful too. Have fun!

MarianForrester · 13/06/2013 21:38

Hats- one cosy that you can sleep in if it's cold, one for sun

Fleece, ditto re sleeping in cold- it always is much colder at night than you would think.

Ibuprofen, wine, big bottles water, dry shampoo, lipstick, thinking....

Awks · 13/06/2013 21:40

blister plasters. You will walk miles.

definitely thick hoodie or fleece. Come 7pm you will be frozen.

MarianForrester · 13/06/2013 21:40

I take a quite big shoulder/cross body bag. Oh, and torch! I tie a ribbon on mine to wear round neck for night time toilet stops.

Though would recommend drinking heavily to become dehydrated to avoid these as much as possible Grin

OneLittleLady · 13/06/2013 21:41

Plasters
Painkillers
Rennies
and of course, your choice of alcohol, I would advise though that almost every festival will not let glass on site so you'll have to empty anything that's in a glass bottle into a plastic bottle before you go otherwise any glass will be confiscated and disposed of at the gates.

Itchyandscratchy · 13/06/2013 21:43

Thank you. Hat? Fuck!
Yes to other stuff.

Thank you so much!

Passport for coming to the island

Laska42 · 13/06/2013 21:46

I live on the the IOW, its been raining most of the week and is very windy and cold here right now. so wellies , poncho , waterproofs , several pairs of socks .. and yes sunscreen and a hat , I'd suggest you bring leggings to wear with your boots with a short skirt or dress on top and poncho and cag in a bag you can clip to your belt /

Rather you than me camping or glamping.. ill be in my nice bed!! ..though I might see you tomorrow in the square..

Enjoy though its always fun ,.. and if you want time out Quay Arts has a great cafe , and the Bargemans on the quay also does brilliant food (large portions . great price ) - I dont work for either Smile.

its quite way into the nearest supermarket in town though.. so make sure several of you go together to pick stuff up ad carry it back

Laska42 · 13/06/2013 21:46

April are you on the island also?

AprilFoolishness · 13/06/2013 21:52

I am ;-)

Might have the heating back on, glad I'm not in a tent!

Laska42 · 13/06/2013 21:54

and me.. not going though.. happy to be out on west Wight , and after work tomorrow that's where I'm staying for the rest of the weekend!!

goodbyeyellowbrickroad · 13/06/2013 21:59

Head torch for nighttime toilet trips if you can get one. I always put my valuables at the bottom of my sleeping bag when sleeping. Layers are definitely the way to go. And definitely don't take anything in a glass bottle - I've seen people have booze, make up and perfume taken off them. Take more loo roll/tissues than you think you need - nice to hand it out to people in the queues that have forgotten it! I'd also take a little bottle of shampoo/shower gel if you do want to use the showers.

Have a great time! I've been to that IOW festival a few times and have always had great fun.

gindrinker · 13/06/2013 22:23

Forget channelling Kate moss and Alexa Chung at a festival, they get helicoptered in and out, think layers and waterproof.

Itchyandscratchy · 13/06/2013 23:24

But I am going in a helicopter.

No I'm not. Wish my legs were skinny enough to look great in wellies & dress...

Which brings me onto footwear.
Do I still take the flip flops or is this a waste of time?
And what else then? I've got nice wellies & also some flat biker boot things. Too heavy to take both?
Any footwear alternatives?
