Babyliss big hair....worth it? And best nail varnish for not chipping!

NoRainNoRainbow · 12/06/2013 20:12

I am about to start my first 9-5. I have worked in jobs in uniform for the last 8 years and have turned into a bit of a scruff. Blush

My hair is nipple length, naturally curly but not incredibly thick, it does frizz quite easily. Would a babyliss big hair make it look more polished? Is it worth £45? How easy and quick is it to use?

I have had the OPI gel manicures/shellac a couple of times, and I still manage to chip it! What can I do? Are acrylics the only way to go?

Also what's the best nude tights? I haven't worn them for years and vaguely remember them being very orange and fake looking.

TIA Smile

Tell me! Tell me!

My Dd school is having a tidy hair drive. I'd fail every day!!!

nipersvest · 12/06/2013 20:17

i would say yes to the big hair, i find mine really easy, i quick dry with the hair dryer then finish off with the big hair. can't advise on nail polish or tights i'm afraid!

crazy8 · 12/06/2013 20:18

Babyliss big hair is amazing. It makes my hair look like I've been to a salon. It's worth youtubing some tutorials as they really helped me. I bought my babyliss from Amazon in January and they had it on for £25.

Lizzylou · 12/06/2013 20:22

Yes to the big hair and I am a new fan of OPI polishes.
With Seche Vite topcoat.

petra27 · 12/06/2013 20:22

The Bighair has really worked for me, it is the only time my hair has looked good!

As for nail polish, Seche Vite top coat was recommended on here and I use that over any cheapo brand and it is great.

NoRainNoRainbow · 12/06/2013 20:22

Thank you for your replies, will order a big hair from tescos, they seem to have it the cheapest at the moment and I get my points Wink

Anyone for nail varnish/manicures?

Or tights? That's whats really bothering me! If they are decent tights I am willing to spend ££ but want to get it right and not waste my money!

TIA

Barry M nail varnishes are really good for not chipping, plus I always paint the end of the nail too which seems to help.

freddiefrog · 12/06/2013 20:31

Yes to the Big Hair

OPI wih Sally Hansen topcoat

No idea about nude tights, I think M&S ones are popular with posters on here

Iwantmybed · 12/06/2013 20:33

Yes to Babyliss Big hair. Its the best styling item I've ever owned. Definitely lives up to the hype. Shiny bouncy hair, yes it takes longer to style hair in stages but worth it. I feel straggly if I don't style it fully.

Nails - just changed to Maybelline 7 day gel polish £4 each (Boots are doing a deal buy one get one half price) They are fab. I've not chipped one yet, I polish once a week. I love the nude Rose Poudre and dark Divine wine. There's not a huge choice but most colours are there. I broke a nail the other week and the polish stayed on the rest of the nail, you couldn't tell I'd broken it.

GobblersKnob · 12/06/2013 20:35

No idea on Big Hair, mine is curly.

But polishes both OPI and Essie are brilliant and really cheap on this site

OPI

Essie

I ordered a few (well a lot, am a bit of a laquerhead Grin) and they came super quick, recomended.

Arcadia · 12/06/2013 20:56

Blimey that site is cheap Gobblers what do they charge for postage?

Hopasholic · 12/06/2013 20:56

Babyliss big hair is the best hair gadget I have ever owned and believe you me, I have quite a collection Grin

I do mine once its 75% dry. It takes a little getting used to and I'd recommend you practice on dry hair. My hair is same length and texture as yours...... Get one!

I use Essie polish and topcoat, it doesn't chip, shrinks a bit after a week, but then I just bung another quick coat on top if I've not got the time to do them from scratch.

Good luck in your new job.

NoRainNoRainbow · 12/06/2013 21:07

Thank you everyone Smile will go and buy a few of the nail varnishes this week......now I just have to learn to paint them properly Grin

Anyone for tights??

Or have I missed something and no one wears them anymore and you're all laughing at my unstylishness Blush
I'm too scared to go bare legged even on a hot day! I'm so pasty!

Just one more thing.....Grin

Anyone know where to get a plain white long sleeved shirt that's not too expensive? I have a few dresses I wear these under, so will buy a couple, just looked on topshop and they were £38!!!! Shock

£1.99 Arcadia Grin

I couldn't believe, my eyes, then I chucked loads in a bag really quickly.

There are some really lovely classic OPI shades too.

GobblersKnob · 12/06/2013 22:02

Shirt?

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 12/06/2013 22:08

I can't comment on the Babyliss Big Hair but as a beauty therapist I would firstly recommend Shellac as this is a gel polish and many of my clients achieve at least 3 weeks out of it.

If you were my client I would assess the condition of your nails and ask about your lifestyle to determine why you are getting chipping and after how long.

Secondly I would recommend VINYLUX which is a new nail laquer that lasts 7 days without chipping and the more it's exposed to natural light the harder it becomes.

Allthingspretty · 12/06/2013 22:19

bArry m with a top coat

MrsFlorrick · 12/06/2013 23:56

BBH is amazing! I am completely useless at any hairstyling but this makes my sorry barnet look swishy and well groomed in record time. Well worth it.

Best nail polish. I like Zoya (online order only) or Essie (buy in bigger Boots). Essie is easiest to get hold of clearly and boots are doing buy one get one half price on that range so two bottles will be £12.

Their dry fast top coat is great too.

It's dead easy and super fast to apply. You can literally recoat each nail within 10 seconds of applying first coat. Zoya is more work but still has good staying power.

dontyouwantmebaby · 13/06/2013 00:45

oh dear am I the only one who didn't really get on with the BBH, I hardly used it and then the brush started playing up and either turned around very slowly or not at all. I have got long, straight, fine textured hair so perhaps it just isn't suited to my hair type Confused.

seche vite is amazing, they sell it in larger branches of Boots (and probably the other large chemists like Superdrug?).

NoRainNoRainbow · 13/06/2013 14:09

Thanks GobblersKnob that shirt is perfect Smile

I feel a shopping spree coming on Grin

Still no one for tights though? I'm stressing about the buggers quite a lot Confused

chipsahoy · 13/06/2013 15:51

I love my babyliss big hair
As for tights I wear Marks and Spencers Illusion tights, 10 denier, they come with two pairs in a pack and after 4 wears (and handwashes) of each, they are still going strong. They are around £5 i think for the 2 pack.

HappyHippyChick · 13/06/2013 16:06

Definitely m&s for tights. I got their basics range tummy shaper tights in a nude for £3.50 for two. They have a couple of different shades of nude so you can avoid the orange!

turkeyboots · 13/06/2013 16:16

Micro fishnets in nude for tights. They don't ladder easily which is my priority with tights.
