I had a short pixie crop for a couple of years and now I've decided that I want shoulder-length bangs. I'm current at the 'short bob' stage but it's pissing me right off.

It's no long enough to tie back or do anything with but it's not short enough to be a really funky crops. Basically, it looks shit and I'm bored with it. I look like I'm wearing a helmet. I can't put scarves in it or the like because I need to dress smartly for work. Ahhhh!

How long until I have lovely shoulder-length hair? And how do I resist the urge to just cut it all off next time I'm at the hairdressers?

[really fucking miserable face]

Oh feel your pain!
I started where you are at about a year ago and have just got to the beyond shoulder length (but is layered so really just the back). Mind you mine grows slowly, is wavy and I do get a good trim every few months.
Good luck with it - persevere - it'll be worth it in the end.

Mumelie A year ago eh? That's not too bad at all. In fact, that sounds quite quick to me.

I'm changing hairdressers for my next cut because my current one always cuts far too much off the ends so it never seems to grow!

I hear ya that it'll be worth it in the end but I'm just so bored of it. Every morning when I do my hair I actually just want to cry a bit. Very irrational I know.

Are there any hair growing out style ideas online for this? I'm in the same position and going for a cut tomorrow - so tempted to go back to the pixie...

There was a thread on here a while ago about styling short hair but I can't remember the thread or the link very useful

I think head scarves/ bands are your friend......

Will try and find something more useful!!

Just a thought but can you change the texture with your hair? Mine was in a straightened inverted short Bob when I started growing it. I actually have curly hair so once it grew out of that obvious style into a softer layered do I could do curly wavy or straight which helped keep it interesting as it grew. Wink
I also found keeping my fringe well trimmed (did it myself) kept it looking neat while the rest grew.
I have very crappy hair - dry frizzy won't behave - but is so much better for being a bit longer. Keep going Grin

Aaah, I'm at exactly the same stage as you! I decided at my last hair cut that I'd get a 60s bob, and it looked great for about a week but now I have the helmet head and my fringe is all straggly and I'm missing my short, easy hair! (Plus I was reminded by my 2006 passport photo, which was taken the last time I had single-length, shoulder-length hair, that my fringe has a bizarre cow-lick if it gets too long.) But I want to persist! At least past my damn ears!

Mumelie, did you do anything to help with growing it out? (eg extra vitamins etc?) I've been using the Lee Stafford hair growth stuff and although it makes the hair all nice and shiny, I suspect it might just be snake oil as far as growth goes.

Mumelie · 13/06/2013 07:50

I a took normal multi vitamin and mineral supplement as I have done for years. What might have helped was some chrondrin (sp?) supplements I took for my joints? Not that my nails improved (worse than ever). I thought my hair grew very slowly but maybe not!
