How best to remove false nails?

Without trashing your own nails / never getting half the glue off etc? Advice much appreciated.

I soaked mine off with acetone as per instructions, but I wouldn't as its completely wrecked my nails. They went all soft and were bending back when ever I put pressure on them.

I vowed next time I will just wait till they ready to fall off. Two nails did that and my nail underneath was just fine.

I think the softness is more often down to false nails, often find that your own nails are sore and thin.

Chic - as lolly said, try soaking them off with acetone (not all removers have them so check bottle) - you can add a few drops of oil to the acetone if you like. Before you soak, cut them down and file over the surface to rough them up. You can also try soaking cotton wool in acetone, and wrapping each finger individually. Secure the cotton wool with foi.

I have used Elegant Touch Get 'Em Off in the past with good results.
