Trousers for the chunky of thigh; help me before I start to cry please!

I've lost weight - yay! But I can't find work trousers.

I'm a size 14 on the waist and hip, but I have chunky thighs. I need a pair of black trousers - like suit trousers, but without the suit jacket. Preferably with belt loops as I'm probably slightly less than a 14 in the waist so a belt just helps slightly.

Slim leg trousers are undoable, bootcut cling in the wrong places and make my arse and thighs look huge, so these styles are ruled out.

Straight leg are okay, but all the variety I've been trying on at the moment seem to give me a camel toe look; that or they seem to be slightly tapered in at the calf - which again doesn't look quite right.

Wide leg is my usual go to - but I can't find anything at the moment; it's all wide leg but clingy fabric and as it's for work I really need it to be more formal and suit-like.

Suggestions please?

Well done on weight loss!!

I am 12/14 in trousers with ample thighs and find these Me&Em ones fantastic. I bought a large. They are a lovely stretchy fabric and are as comfy as trackpants but look like proper work trousers. Only gripe is that they lose shape after a days wear but they wash really well and bounce back. They have good size belt loops.

I also love these Michael Kors ones. I got them on the outnet for about £40 reduced from about £120 a few months ago. Outnet has lots of MK stuff and I find the fit is good - I have a 12 inch difference between waist and hips and the size 12 is perfect and I don't need a belt. They say dry clean only but I have washed them on a wool cycle with woolite and they survived!

I feel your pain - this is the first time in years that I have 2 pairs of work trousers that fit well and look flattering on my porky legs.

Thanks for those suggestions - I was hoping for a more high street location though as I need them fairly urgently Sad

Anyone else got any ideas? I'm up for bribing you with Wine ?

Next wide leg work trousers, I am a 14 and have a slimmish (in comparison to my thighs) waist but v.chunky thighs. These look fab on and are about £20.00. They are the best fit trousers I have and don't gape at the waist like others.

Next? Oh, I honestly never thought of there. Sounds daft I know, but I'm so used to being "large" that I tend not to think about Next - Evans was always my goto place. (And as I have larger than normal for my size norks, the tops tend not to fit me).

Thanks! Thanks

Agree with Next, recently bought 2 pairs of 'smart' work type trousers which are a very good fit, pleasantly surprised!

Don't forget that if you find a good quality pair for a good price in the sales that are too big in the waist, then you can get the waist taken in by any competent tailor, or even a dry cleaner.

I am also large of thigh and find wallis do good basic black work trousers. Debenhams is a good place to try- you can grab a selection from different concessions and keep trying till you hit the jackpot

HazeltheMcWitch · 15/06/2013 10:14

I am chunky of thigh - even when I have been very skinny everywhere else, my thighs are still very very sturdy. Skinnies, and most straights will never be my friend..

I've got a couple of pairs of old reliables from Collection at John Lewis. One is bootcut, the other is nearer a straight with a very slight crop. The former I've had for a while, but I saw them yesterday in store (although I can't spot them on the website!).

HazeltheMcWitch · 15/06/2013 10:15

Oh, are you tall, btw? I forgot to add, I'm 5'9 - my sister is shorter and finds Next and Wallis good for her pear shape, but they're no good for me.

UseHerName · 15/06/2013 10:15

i second/third next - also dunnes if you're in ireland

Sorry - lost this thread (clumsy fingers!)

Our Next was spectacularly badly stocked - I'm only 5ft 2" so needed to look for a short or petite length; there were two styles in the whole shop Hmm

However, Debenhams Classic Collection came up trumps with a 14s wide leg pair - they're still a bit neat on the thigh, but it's not horrendous. I need to tone up really!

And they were in the sale so I managed to knobble a pair of linen trousers for my holidays too Grin

I know you've had a sucessful shop, but thought I'd add my shopping habits:

Post baby (less of a waist), I default to Next (nothing to do with name!)
Pre baby (tiny waist in comparison to the rest) Dorothy Perkins.

I've also got a really nice pair atm from M&S - needed a suit for an interview at 3 days notice, and the trousers were so nice, I went back for a second pair!

Congrats on the weight loss.

Timeforabiscuit · 16/06/2013 20:58

I have chunky thighs and my m&s had a load of size 14 trousers that were a 16 on the thigh and wide leg but in a tiny bit on the waist

Next material was horrible for the full price , I wasn't going to argue with sale price m&s ones

DorisShutt · 17/06/2013 07:02

I did try M&S but ours is going through a refit so things are laid out in an "interesting" fashion; and apparently everyone wants a size 14s Hmm

Still I'll be keeping my eyes open!
