Really sorry to hear this. Have you seen your GP?

Mimmit · 11/06/2013 12:18

Another one sorry to hear. I know nothing about it myself but Jeremy vine on radio 2 yesterday (I think) had a discussion about female hair loss. He had a really good guest on who seemed to have a lot of recommendations and support.

Maybe worth listening to it. Good luck. Hope some more suggestions come along soon.

I looked into this recently for my Dad but it must be the same for women. He's using a caffeine shampoo - Alpecin www.amazon.co.uk/Alpecin-Caffeine-Shampoo-250-ml/dp/B0027SU56W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370953006&sr=8-1&keywords=caffeine+shampoo

I'm also considering buying im this book www.hairlikeafox.com/ that suggests hairloss may be linked to lack of thyroid function. I'm doing some more reading first though.

Seeing your GP is a good idea. Also are you taking a good multivitamin/mineral supplement?

I have had this problem. You need to see your gp as there are a number of treatable medical conditions which could be the cause. In my case my iron stores were virtually nonexistent. It was not something I could have treated myself with general supplements. A long course of iron tablets helped hugely and I no longer have a problem. It took time though, probably 18 months to see significant regrowth.

Please see your gp before you spend money on expensive remedies which will probably not work.

This is happening to me, its a lack of estrogen after a surgical menopause. You need to go to your Dr, as others have said it could be your thyroid or hormonal.
In the last couple of months I would say I've lost half of mine. It's freaking me out Shock.

The first two things that spring to mind is that you're low in vitamin D or that you need iron supplements.

Worth a trip to your GP for a check over and a blood test to rule out the obvious and easily fixable stuff before you start splashing out a fortune on lotions and potions. Grin

Spatone iron supplement it's brill.
Good multi vitamin
Plenty of protein in diet
Thyroid bloods checked.

I'm off to the doctors tomorrow for the exact same thing. Over the last couple of months my previously thick and soft hair has about halved and gone a bit straw like. Whenever I wash it, dry it, brush or run my hands through it I come away with handfuls. Similar to after having a baby, it's awful and making me very stressed which I doubt is helping one bit!

realbiz, have you been to the GP yet?
I saw mine yesterday and she's recommended me a shampoo to use (meant to be for dermatitis but she figured it couldn't hurt) and is sending me for blood tests to check my hormone levels and thyroid function.
