Feeling fugly, broke & hate all my clothes!!!

Right! I just seem be to incrediably frustrated with everything in my wardrobe at the moment! I'm going through a 'I'm so fugly & I've put on weight I know it I don't want to go out the house' mood. I'm usually in skinnies, plain t-shirt or jumper/ hoodie of some kind. I'm about 5'6, last time I weighed myself was about 3 weeks ago at my mums house & I was 10 st 10.

I think I'm odd apple shaped. Slim arms & legs in comparison to my stomach & back & neck & face. I have an extraordinary fat round face and short neck, something which has annoyed me for 30+ years. If a bull dog could walk on its hind legs, that's me.

Anyway, I just think I'm in the wrong state of mind to begin a diet, I use to do Zumba but medication side effects wiped out any energy I have, although if I gave myself a good kick up the backside I should be doing it 3 times a week.

So what clothes would you say are more flattering to an apple shape? Should I be wearing skinnies? Some 'fashion' websites say if you have slender legs, then apples shouldn't as it just emphasises the tummy area more, but then on other websites it recommends skinnies! I can't do tunic tops either, I look 9 mtgs pregnant in them!

And I don't have a small fortune either. Good luck with this one!

You sound a great weight to me! I am shorter and heavier than you, so I should probably not go out in public lol. If you google, there are sites that will help you decide which shape you are and what sort of things flatter you.

I was given a Gok Wan book a few years back and that was pretty helpful and gave lots of good advice. What size clothes are you at the moment?

I like tunic tops or dresses with ties/belts just above the waist so that the material just skims over my hideous stomach, but I still look cinched in giving definition to my waist. One thing I would say is don't go for tops that swamp you, try to go for things that help give you definition.

With jeans, the only answer is to try them on. I go for slightly higher waist ones otherwise I get the muffin top from hell! If you don't like skinnies, you can go for straight leg as they are flattering and look great with heels or flats.

I am in no way a fashionista, but these are just the basics I have figured out for me. I'm sure someone far more stylish than me will come to your rescue soon.

Thanks for your reply & advice! Also just to add, it's not meant about weight as I have friends who are larger than me and are absolutely stunning, are pretty, they are attractive and look so stylish & just the way they carry themselves. I'm not in proportion at all :(

dress £19.50 wrap style top and full skirt to give you a waist. I like the navy, wear with metallic/tan/nude embellished flat sandals and lots of bangles for everyday.
striped skirt £12 A line is great for apples, wear with a black fitted T (V or scoop neck) and black ballet flats.
high waisted maxi £20
cute print wrap dress £14.99
lace detail £12.99 The lace draws attention up and the belt gives you more shape.

Any good?

Sounds like you have a similar body shape to me, and I am also finding it stressful to find flattering outfits...however, I find all manner of sins can be hidden with a blazer. Worn over a loose t-shirt, it's my safety item

Your legs sound stunning, I would be wearing clothes which show them off at all times Smile I think the advice about wearing wrap dresses / tops is spot on as it will give you definition around the waist. I also agree with the scoop neck / V neck advice, avoid high round necks at all costs.

If you have slim legs, could you wear narrow cut jeans which end at your ankle with wedges to give you some height and show off your ankles? There are lots of summer sandals with the peep toes, paint your toe nails in a neon colour which is very in this year again

Fauxfox - Wow those dresses look like the type of dresses I would go for - if I could step outside of my comfort zone that is of jeans. I hardly ever ever wear a dress or a skirt perhaps once a year because when I do I feel 'wrong' in it or I just look 'wrong' in it like I've been plonked in it. It has to be extraordinarily hot (like 28+ degrees) for me to ditch the jeans!

Blazer sounds like an idea....
