im 27 a hairdresser and mother of two 5,2" size 8 brown short hair (growing out a crop) fair skinned with green/grey eyes.
Iv lost my fashion mojo, i looked at myself this morning and saw frump (yuk) but iv got no spare money to go out and buy a new wardrobe.
I currently live in wear skinny jeans boots/converse t-shirt layered with a vest or a blouse and cadi, jewelery is minimal wedding ring and chunky silver watch. I wear make up and actually my face is the one bit that fits me iynwim.
I just feel lost with my style it has to be practical for little ones, keeping a house etc. but i have to look stylish for my work.
Any advice would be greatly recievd,
tia

cropped trousers £7.99 with your existing vests/t-shirts sandals with a hint of neon and some summery bracelets?

What was your style before? boho? preppy? elegant? fashionable? pinky? goth? tomboy? if i had some idea what you wanted to look like i could try and find some suggestions Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/06/2013 19:17

Could you treat yourself to a couple of tube skirts? Nice enough with Converse for casual but smart enough to dress up for work too. Topshop ones are only about £22 and you can get them even cheaper in Dotty P's.

I think my problem is I go from one style to another but iv not the buget to do it well iyswim I like rock chic I like classic class but I think I need to decide what works best and stivk to it trouble is when I do funky rocky I feel.try hard and when I do classic timeless I feel frumpy see the problem?

What jacket do you wear? Maybe a new jacket/bag/shoes would update the stuff you have? For example roll up your black skinnies to 7/8th length, add chain sandals, a slouchy vest top over a fitted vest top and some black nail varnish. Instant cool points surely!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/06/2013 19:59

Are you on Pinterest? It can be good for ideas.

mothersmilkandherchickenseggs · 09/06/2013 07:57

thank yeah I think if I could invest in a couple of jackets and some sandles thid would help but I have no funds, have tried ebaying my old stuff but with little luck. I think ideally what id like is a biker style jacket and a couple of nice blazer some sandles and some flats and a new hair colour (was thinking somthing funky like bright copper with darker tones through it) lack of money is making me feel horrid Sad

Ebay, charity shops, Primark, TK Maxx clearance section, Facebook selling pages - look out for a bargain - you'd be surprised what you can get for a few pounds if you try hard enough. Good luck Smile

I also love ebay!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/06/2013 10:23

Pixie - I think you need to join the MN bloggers thingie, if you want to link to your blog.

I was looking on Tesco website last night and there was a really nice jersey biker jacket for £12, available in black and white. Good selection of sandals under £10 in Primark and sometimes Asda, I got some leopard ones last year and everyone kept asking are they from River Island?
I've bought a few jersey midi skirts from ebay for about £4 each recently (made in Uk aswel) They are not amazing quality but will definately last the season. If you type in midi skirt on ebay loads of versions come up.

browneyedpixie · 09/06/2013 10:59

remus I'm already on there, I think it's now ok to link if it's relevant. Thankyou though.

browneyedpixie · 09/06/2013 11:01

Tescos have some great stuff, one pair of sandals I really love but the weather is all over the place! The denim biker jacket I have is a great buy and in the sale for £15 now!

AntPants1 · 09/06/2013 11:07

great blog browneyedpixie

browneyedpixie · 09/06/2013 11:09

Thankyou! Smile

mothersmilk george at asda have some good bits that don't break the bank too?

dontyouwantmebaby · 09/06/2013 11:23

what about a clothes swap? my friend organises these locally where she charges small entry fee, people bring X items of clothing they no longer want/need (good condition & quality) in exchange for tokens. They then use the tokens to 'buy' anything they fancy. It is a good, inexpensive way of getting rid of clothes you will never wear again and picking up something 'new' into the bargain.

Okay for very little funds you can get the following-

Vest style maxi dress in black, navy and grey. These are on eBay for about £6 each.

Cropped denim jacket. I have seen these in Peacocks for about £15.

New look do converse style pumps for about £10. Also their ballerinas are about £6, very comfortable and in an array of colours.

Hit Primark for scarfs and bangles. These are around £1-2.

Pick up a couple of cropped cardigans for dressing up the dresses for work etc. These are around £8. If you have a Store twenty-one they have loads in there at the moment for £4. They do scarfs/bangles etc too. Also front tie Cardigans work for a smarter look with these sort of dresses. They are about £4 each.

Cropped tops that are a bit slouchy go well. Loads of these on eBay as well.

This should form part of a very easy basic wardrobe that you can tweak according to whether you are feeling rock chic or classic.

With respect to hair dye I have tried just about every other brand of hair dye but I really rate the Schwarzkopf stuff. It stays put and the colours turn out really nice. I costs about £2.50. Total bargain. For a realistic red that doesn't turn dinner lady from the eighties burgundy- try highland chestnut or their Cognac shades. It's the Country Colors range.

Re make-up MUA is REALLY good. It keeps running out where I live... The nail varnishes are good as are the eye shadow palettes. Lipsticks are a bit hit and miss but it's worth a look. Superdrug for that one and most of it is a pound. The eye palette is said to be a dupe of a much more expensive brand and the pigmentation is said to be better. I got mine for around £4 from memory.

mothersmilkandherchickenseggs · 09/06/2013 13:46

thanks pixie your hair looks great, think i am going to have to take a long hard look at all my clothes and think about how i wear them until iv got funds enough to buy a few bits (seriously no money we can just afford to eat Sad ) but i just want to feel good enthused in order to succeed sounds silly but iv so much to tackle in the next few months and i always feel better armed with looking and feeling good iyswim?
hair is no issue colour wise being a hairdresser i can tackle that one Wink

You're welcome, hope it gave since inspiration. I sometimes go through everything and pair it up differently? perhaps try that? or bleach jeans or stud a top etc? ps I was a hairdresser too. Are you me? Grin

browneyedpixie · 09/06/2013 14:07

*some

browneyedpixie · 09/06/2013 14:11

oh and totally get what you mean on looking makes you feeling like you can tackle more. Do you wear lippy? whatever I wear I feel loads better with lippy..

On food front do you meal plan? I've got much better at that and budgets and it helps a great deal. I've been where you sound as though you are and it sucks but things will pick up. Just means you can learn from it and tackle the next issues life throws at you easier. Smile
chin up

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/06/2013 14:48

Gosh, Pixie - you are sooooo young! :)

Milk - I think starting with your hair is a good idea. If you can give yourself a lift hair-wise, your clothes might all feel a bit better.

browneyedpixie · 09/06/2013 16:44

Grin I don't feel it!

browneyedpixie · 09/06/2013 19:22
