And now I have bright red cheek bones :(

And it gives me spots.

I'm throwing the horrid stuff away.

Recommend me a new BB cream please. Not rimmel. Its useless. Or CC cream...What's tge difference?

My sun cream has given me spots, I feel for you!
Will lurk for recommendations.

AlfalfaMum · 07/06/2013 21:44

I haven't seen a decent bb cream yet, although I haven't tried them all I must admit..
I'm using Clinique super city block which is SPF 40, then just a bit of concealer or foundation brushed on top, depending on need.

EMUZ · 07/06/2013 21:44

The problem with SPF makeup is not using enough. But foundation, I mean you just wouldn't use the same amount as sun cream would you?
Probably best looking for a moisturiser with SPF and using that

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 07/06/2013 21:49

I have a Clarins facial sunscreen that I use under makeup and it is brilliant - SPF40. It was quite expensive, more than £30 IIRC but it is very runny so you only need a small amount because it spreads very well.

rootypig · 07/06/2013 21:55

You're never going to coat your face with enough make up to get the spf effect. And I find spf moisturisers give me spots. I would buy a separate product and on summer mornings skip the moisturiser in favour of straight spf - there are lots of good ones out there. La Roche Posay Anthelios gel is one.

EMUZ · 07/06/2013 21:56

Although following my earlier post I do like Missha perfect cover BB cream (eBay) I wear no13 which is perfect for pale skin. SPF 42 but I wear an SPF moisturiser as well

EdwiniasRevenge · 07/06/2013 22:12

To be fair I do usually use a sun screen under my makeup on a day like today. Its just that today I forgot and have paid the price...

I have normal/combination skin and in weather like we've had at the moment, I get away with using a hydrating serum and an SPF for the face in place of moisturiser. I've been using this so far this year and it wears very well under my makeup.

RosieLig · 07/06/2013 22:21

I second MrsBertMaklin's recommendation. Great stuff for my combination sensitive skin.

TerraNotSoFirma · 07/06/2013 22:25

You would need to apply six teaspoonfuls of foundation to get the amount of SPF they claim to have.

Tescos soliel matte SPF50 is a really good sunscreen.

bella65 · 08/06/2013 11:02

SPFs in foundation are a bit of a con for reasons given above- you need a really good layer of any sunscreen to benefit from it, and the layer of foundation most people use is not going to offer any protection really.

If you want to protect your skin then you need something made for the job like a sun block with a high SPF AND you need to re-apply just like you would to your body on the beach etc.

No sun screen applied at 8am is going to still work well for an entire day, is it?

EdwiniasRevenge · 08/06/2013 11:35

I feel a bit pointed at here.

I usually apply suncream under my makeup on a day like today - if I wear any make up.

Today I forgot. I did my make-up at 12.30. Then remembered.

But my bb cream said spf25 (which is a higher factor than the suncream I use which I think is spf20, or maybe 15).

So rather than take my make-up off I trusted it.

I went out for 3hrs....ok it was the height of the sun...but I didn't decide what time to hold the event I went to.

Whilst I am not burnt, and this morning it has turned to a tan I was a little surprised to find that something advertised as spf25 offered the same protection as my unprotected skin on my shoulders (where I missed with my suncream).

It wasn't deliberate or usual that I rely on my make up as a sun screen if I plan to be sitting in the sun.

Personally I swear by Clinique city block, and my usual double wear light foundation, applied sparingly if I'm not at work.

MrsBertMacklin · 08/06/2013 11:57

Sorry Edwinia, I read your OP as asking for recommendations for a BB cream with SPF in it, as I guess others did. And most of us have said that any makeup which purports to offer SPF is baloney, which is why we've gone off on a recommending-suncream-instead tangent. I don't think we were having a dig at you, just misunderstood the request in your OP and were advising off the back of that.

I am getting on very well with the Clinique CC cream after a rocky start (assistant matched me to the wrong colour). I tried lots of the BB creams released last year and didn't find one that offered anything over my normal tinted moisturiser, but I like the CC cream immensely.

TeaOneSugar · 08/06/2013 12:01

Which sunscreen do you usually use?

EdwiniasRevenge · 08/06/2013 12:03

Thanks.

I guess I was asking for recommendations for a better bb/cc cream driven by the fact that the spf was crap and it gives me spots.

I appreciate the advise re spf make up. But I am still looking for something that doesn't give me spots.

I would prefer something from a budget range rather than one of the counter ranges, and tbh I use it as an alternative to tinted moisturiser.

I tried one that adapted colour brilliantly but didn't buy it...now I can't remember what it was...

I am using this Body Shop BB and my very sensitive, hates everything skin, loves it, only one shade so no messing about, it's really lovely.

It didn't love the other one they do at all though, steer well clear.

Jeezimacasalinga · 08/06/2013 12:45

I bought this recently and have been quite impressed - half price at the moment www.boots.com/en/Garnier-Ambre-Solaire-BB-Cream-Sun-Protection-High-SPF50-50ml_1312629/

MrsBertMacklin · 08/06/2013 12:51

Jeezima, I bought that and hated it, it was far too orange for me. In fact, I have the tube still if it works for you and you want another bottle?
