Epilation - am I doing something wrong or is it just not for me?

I find within a couple of days my legs just start to itch like mad and drive me crazy. Am I doing something wrong?

My friend SWEARS by it, she does her legs and her armpits (ouch) on her recommendation I bought a more expensive epilator but still the same result. I end up scratching myself crazy and giving up!

That doesn't sound right. If they were ingrown hairs, then I would have thought it would take longer than two days to start coming through?

Hopefully someone can help.

I use one - but find that I get a better result if I leave the hairs to grow for a couple of weeks first.

Yeah I let them grow Grin have a shower before and don't put on any cream after.

I used to get the ingrowing hairs but actually that didn't happen last time the reaction almost felt like an allergy it was so itchy.

OOh sorry for double posting. Am having problems with wi fi.

fuzzywuzzy · 07/06/2013 10:48

could it just be dry skin?

After twenty four hours moisturise?

BlueSkySunnyDay · 07/06/2013 10:56

It seems to get worse during the night, i'm guessing when I get warm.

Thanks fuzzy will re-grow and try that Grin

Did you used to get it with shaving?

I often get that a couple of days after waxing, but just for a day or so.

I had to stop shaving my legs because the regrowth was itching like crazy and also it brought out my eczema.

Maybe you let them grow TOO long and they didn't pull out at the root, but just broke off, so hence they are now itchy because of stubble?

BlueSkySunnyDay · 07/06/2013 17:56

I wondered if they were breaking rather than coming out at the root, I will have to make sure when I try again.

I always got a rash a day or so later when I shaved my bikini line I got round that by using good old Sudocreme on it.

Sometimes after 7 days mine get itchy, as if the hair is growing back through the skin and that's making it itchy, could it be that?

BlueSkySunnyDay · 07/06/2013 19:51

I never find they feel as smooth as a good going over with a razor makes them, but i'm guessing i'd see really fast regrowth if it had just broken off?

This happens about 2 days later and it isn't just faintly itchy its that I have to scratch it, its driving me crazy, type of itch!

Maybe you need to exfoliate regularly between epilating sessions? It helps the regrowth come through, so you won't get ingrown hairs. I use a pair of those rough body mitts on my legs every other day, and also moisturise them regularly. I'm getting on much better with epilation these days than I ever have in the past.

fedupofnamechanging · 07/06/2013 22:44

I think you should ask the doctor because it might be something else and not directly related to the epilation, which might be just making it worse.
