Very tall woman in heels?

So my DH has just booked four days away, just the two of us, in August as we have been having problems. But, I have a problem: Should I wear heels? I'm 6ft and DH is 6ft. I used to always wear 3inches on a night out with friends but i'm not sure if I can still pull off being 6'3 in heels! I did feel fabulous in them but I don't think i'm as fabulous as I was then! I normally wear flats on a night out with DH but DH has booked for us to go for dinner at a nice hotel in Knightsbridge, London and I just don't feel that my flats will cut it! What do you think? Is 6'3 in heels 'freakishly' tall? I have gorgeous nude and black court shoes, and some black caged sandals: all with a 3inch heel. I'm a size 12-14 if that makes any difference. Has confidence crisis and wishes to spend entire life at home in comfy dorothy perkins flat shoes.

Thank you!

Wear the heels. I'm 6ft too, anyone who thinks I shouldn't wear heels because it makes me too tall can sod off. Their issue, not mine.

FlatsInDagenham · 07/06/2013 00:40

Wear them.

I'm 5'10" and my DH is 5'6". I spent far too many years worrying about emphasising the height difference and choosing flat shoes. We're in this for life: I'm going to wear whatever damn shoes I like.

MangoJuiceAddict · 07/06/2013 09:00

Hey! I think I will wear them Smile. I worry about towering over people and looking awkward but I need to overcome this fear, because I didn't always feel like this! Have you ever had any comments by strangers? Because even in flats people will sometimes say to me 'You're so tall!'.

Also tall. Have dated men shorter. They all loved it when i wore heels and was 'super tall'. People have been commenting all my life. I used to be insecure about it. No more. Embrace your lofty status and enjoy your holiday.

luvfizz · 07/06/2013 10:46

Im tall and wear heals proudly (when out and about). They feel great and besides, I'm just proportionally taller than all the other shorter girls in heals :)

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 07/06/2013 10:50

i bet you'll look ace
my colleague is 6'1" and she wears mid-height heels all the time at work.

I'm 5'9", DH 5'10, so taller than him in heels. neither of us is bothered.

MisselthwaiteManor · 07/06/2013 10:56

Nothing freakish about being tall, I bet you look amazing in a pair of heels. If you're going to feel awkward and uncomfortable though is it really worth it?

Mrsrobertduvall · 07/06/2013 10:57

I have this issue...I'm 6 feet, dh is about 5 feet 10.
I wear flats for comfort, but also because I tend to slouch in heels as I feel self conscious. with short friends
I have some lovely sling backs which have never been wornSad

kiwigirl42 · 07/06/2013 11:28

I'm 6 foot 2 and I don't often wear heels but I did wear some fantastic silver high heel sandals to BIL's wedding ... and no one noticed! I think if you are already very tall people will look anyhow.

saying that I always feel a bit of a transvestite in high heels. No idea why.

MangoJuiceAddict · 07/06/2013 21:35

Thanks for the replies! I went shopping today and bought some gorgeous new dresses to wear and some lovely new mid heels: you all boosted my confidence and have convinced me that heels are a good thing! DH likes them too Smile. I just needed to get out of the habbit of bending over slightly when short people talk to me whilst wearing them: this happened when I tried them on and my 5'2 MIL asked me about DD Blush,

I bought these: www.newlook.com/shop/shoe-gallery/view-all-shoes/nude-patent-peeptoe-heels_274290814

Links to dresses please :)

I'm 6ft, dp is 5ft 8 and I don't tend to wear heels as they hurt my back...but some things neeeeeed heels to look good.

I completely agree that some things just NEED heels, otherwise they look frumpy and the outift looks half complete! Also, if having larger feet (i'm a size 9) is a concern then heels definitely make feet look smaller Smile.

Thanks...off to have a nosey :)

I have size 6.5 feet but they are skinny with skinny ankles and look like flippers with bare legs and flats...

ThreeDudesOnABus · 08/06/2013 05:32

I tower over my husband when I put 6" heels on.

I once had a secretary who was a six-footer, she wore sky-scrapers - I remember a friend of mine was insanely jealous about the long-legged blonde. Grin

I have a friend whose husband made her ditch all her heels so she wouldn't be taller than him - that has always made me feel uncomfortable. :( but he's a whole page of Relationships

SoYo · 08/06/2013 06:24

I'm 5ft11 & until recently when a baby interrupted my previously glam life I'd gladly wear skyscraper heels. DH is 5ft10. He used to say having a giraffe me walking on his arm made him look rich!

buildingmycorestrength · 08/06/2013 07:47

Cousins of mine are wonderfully tall ladies (about 6ft) who wear heels. The key is posture and confidence. They look wonderful because they don't slouch, they take pride in their appearance and they project self-confidence.

I crane my neck looking up at them in admiration and jealousy.

bulby · 08/06/2013 07:55

I wish I had all your confidence! I've bought small heels before but feel so self conscious I never wear them (am 6 foot). I do think heels look lovely but cannot cope with the looks and comments- I once over heard transvestite comments and the very fact that in places like schuh the larger sizes are obviously directed at men doesn't help! It's my problem and I say that if you want to wear them then go for it.
The funny think is that I see other tall people in heels and think they look lovely.

batfuttocks · 08/06/2013 08:03

I'm six foot three in heels and think its all about posture and confidence. I think you have to banish transvestite from your head and think of words like elegant and willowy instead! In reality it's no more freakish than being four foot nine in flats. Get out there and get over it, we come in all shapes and sizes and there is someone to appreciate all of us Wink

MangoJuiceAddict · 08/06/2013 09:51

Wow, I'm shocked your friend's husband made her ditch the heels! Surely if he finds tall women unattractive/intimidating he shouldn't be with one?! I've heard about the tall women and rich men thing before aha! All of mick jagger's lovers have been at least 5'10 so maybe there's some truth in it! And 6ft beauties Elle Macpherson and Uma Therman bhave children with the same investment banker! I'm going to banish transvestite from my head and think supermodel instead, I think posture and confidence is defintely key, I love the point of if a 4'9 woman wears flats why shouldn't a 6ft woman wear heels?!. Let's start a tall ladies revolution Grin.

Perplexing · 08/06/2013 09:56

Wear your heels and enjoy your fabulous height!

amessagetoyouYoni · 08/06/2013 10:01

I'm 6 ft, Dh is 6'1.

I dont wear skyscraper Louboutin-stylee heels, as I feel ridiculous, but a regular 3 or 4 inch inch heel? Hell yeah!

Wear 'em! You'll feel gorgeous and your husband will be salivating Grin

SquidgyMummy · 08/06/2013 10:07

Wow all these tall ladies! I am a measly 5'6" and would love to be a bit taller. DP is 6'1" and is nuts about heels but i find them uncomfortable.

If you like them, then wear them and have a fab time. I bet your DH will be very proud to have you in his arm!!

MechanicalTheatre · 08/06/2013 10:16

I'm jealous, I feel like a fucking queen when I put 4 inch heels on and become a lofty 5ft5.

Nothing wrong with being taller than your man in heels - in fact, I think it looks really nice because it's a bit of a change. Always makes me think that the husband must be pretty cool because he's not one of those petty insecure twats that's hung up on height.

MangoJuiceAddict · 08/06/2013 10:23

Yes, I don't think i'd feel comfortable in a skyscraper louboutin style heel but i'm really into the idea of 3 or 4 inch heels! If you find heels painful maybe you could try wedges? Although i'm a fan of the classic thin heel! That's true about it making a change, I just hope there aren't any low doorways!

OP posts:
Naoko · 08/06/2013 11:10

Yes, you do want to mind the low doorways! I don't wear heels often because although I like how they look I find it hard to walk in them, and someone who can't walk in heels looks much, much worse than someone who's walking normally in flats, but I do for special occasions and job interviews. In my old flat, we had one doorway that was lower than all the others. It wasn't normally a problem, it skimmed an inch or two above both mine and DP's head, until the day I had a job interview, put on my new high heeled boots, and swanned out the door....only to brain myself on the doorframe :o

(I didn't get that job, but I don't think it was to do with that...)
