Facial oils where to start?

I have been reading that facial oils are great for more mature skins and I'm intrigued and looking to buy one.

I have dry skin but with an oily t-zone, prone to the odd spot but not any real break outs. I'm 37.

The n-spa one from asda has been recommended, I did visit the nearest asda to look at this range that has some great reviews but didn't buy anything as felt a bit overwhelmed.

Do I cleanse and then use facial oil instead of serum with moisturiser on top? or is the oil instead of moisturiser? The packaging and blurb on the n-spa one seemed to suggest that you use it after cleansing and before moisturiser.

I don't want to end up with an even oilier t-zone and clogged up pores.

thanks

I cleanse, then put serum on, when that has dried I add the oil, then nightcream before bed.

I have very dry skin so it needs all of this.

Rosehip oil by Triliogy is great, or try to get samples from Clarins of their Blue Orchid Oil and their Lotus oil. Lotus is for oilier skin and BOO is for drier.

At the moment I'm using Boots Botanics oil as it's very budget friendly. It's quite good but not as good as the ones I've mentioned above.

I second clarins - I use blue orchid oil and its great for my dry skin. Sanctuary spa therapist facial oil is good too and a bit cheaper.

I buy organic rosehip, argan, sweet almond, apricot and avocado from Amazon. Cheap as chips. (and just as greasy Grin)

I know Neal's Yard Rose Facial Oil gets a MN klaxon whenever it's mentioned and I intend to try that next.

I'm also very dry and argan works better for me than rosehip.

thanks, I'll investigate them all. try and find small samples to see what works best.

Cleanse, tone, serum then moisturise. Clarins do a good range try a sample also Liz Earle oil is excellent

Cleanse, tone, oil if you need it, serum, moisturise. If your skin is prone to oiliness, I'd only use it at night instead of a night cream

The Clarins oils are amazing.

Serum before oil, the oil will form a barrier on your skin that the serum would just sit on top of.

I want to try the clarins one

decleor do lovely oils

AnnOnaMaus · 05/06/2013 23:10

Serums tend to contain silicone - oils let your skin breathe, think about it, your skin contains oil already. Unless your oil is mineral oil, that is, in which case you should just throw that shit away. Oil before serum, always.

I love the Clarins oil too, often you can get samples to try first which is handy too- the lady gave me a sample bottle because I looked sufficiently unsure and that lasted me about a month or so.

You need to wander around the counters looking confused Smile
