Ash Brown Hair Colour

Please help!

I stupidly dyed my hair a dark reddish colour in autumn. It doesn't suit me (makes my face look florid!) and has faded to an even worse colour.

My natural hair colour is a bit strange, brown with no red in it at all, like this. Does anyone know which home dye kit (pref permanent) would help me get this colour? It seems that brown hair dye always has warm tones.

I would be ever so grateful Flowers

Watching with interest as I'm in exactly the same position, my natural hair colour is almost the same as that in the link.

I dyed my hair with Nice and Easy medium ash blonde on Monday and while there is no red left in my hair colour it is very golden (what I would call chestnut, and def not blonde as its quite dark!). Although its a nice colour like you I would love to get a cooler toned colour but no luck so far.

Nice and Easy 114 is a light ash brown, try that.

It can be hard to get rid of red tones, this is quite good at neutralising them. You could also try something like colourB4 to try to get the red out before using the 114.

Thanks Chartreuse. I'll go to Boots tomorrow.

Good luck in your ash brown quest Dig!

The best brown I've ever used is John Frieda dark natural blonde. Not blonde at all btw!

I've tried many browns over the years and just wanted one o match my natural colour - like your link - and it's soooo hard to get one that's not reddish. Anyway, I highly recommend it but just be aware that You're still going to have the redness coming through whichever dye you put over it.

That's my exact hair colour OP! Are you trying to cover greys? If not, try Aveda Black Malva Conditioner. It's really pigmented and looks much more natural than all dyes I've tried (which all go red on me, even supposedly ash tones like Nice and Easy 114). I used it when I had highlights and wanted to cover them up because they looked awful, and I still use it occasionally now because it gives your hair a really shiny, rich tone. It turns your hands purple so you have to scrub them with soap, but totally worth it - and you only need to use it every two or three times you wash your hair to maintain the colour.

Don't bother with the shampoo btw, the conditioner is the one that has all the pigment in it.

Oh crap, sorry Paris!
It's called light natural brown! 6N.

I also had a weird coppery, gingery effect from the nice and easy 114.
