Help - how to get tomatoey sauce out of a white top?

A friend very sweetly lent me lots of her old maternity clothes recently, and I was horrified to notice that somehow I've spilt some tomatoey sauce on one of the white tops. I think it's a drop of sauce from a spag bol or a tomato-based curry or something. It's left an orange stain which won't come out in the wash.

Any bright ideas about how to remove it, or do I just need to bite the bullet and get her some vouchers for the shop it's from when I return everything? Now I remember why I hate borrowing things - much prefer to break my own stuff! Hmm

It is brilliant.

What have you tried so far? Sometimes hanging outside in the sunshine removes tomato stains. Dc3 got bol on her shorts the other day and they came out of the wash stained but were fine after a day on the line.

Try hanging it outside on the washing line, or put it on a sunny windowsill. This often works with tomato based stains. I do this with my DS's school polo shirts when he spills pasta sauce on them and the stains just disappear like magic. I don't know what might work if it is a curry stain though.

If it's a tiny tiny stain and you're close to giving up anyway try a little neat thick bleach dabbled on with the end of a cotton bud. You should literally see the stain bleach out. Then as soon as its gone, wash top on its own with normal washing powder and lots of fabric softener.

Leave it in the sun.

This also works on my gone-orange-in-the-dishwasher plastic chopping boards.

Yep, definately wash it and dry it in direct sunlight.

Thanks very much for all of your replies - it's out on the line in the sun at the moment, so fingers crossed!
