Shampoo for thick but "heavy"greasy hair

Hairdressers always compliment my hair as it is thick and straight. But it gets greasy quickly and to my mind often looks flat. I can never decide if I should be using a volumising shampoo as I don't have fine hair by any means. It's just below shoulder length, straight and highlighted. I prefer brands that are towards the organic end and don't mind paying a premium. Have had some success with Aveda but would really like to go 48 hours without washing my hair as drying it bores me. I only put conditioner on the ends and don't use much product. What should I try next?

Aussie Mega - not organic or high end but doesn't weigh hair down and works much better to volumise than all volumising shampoos I've tried, including high end ones like Phyto.

Oh and it's the only shampoo I've found that lets me wash every other day instead of every day, so might be what you're looking for.

Dear me what a First World problem I've posted. I sound like a right whinge bag Grin

Surely every single thread in S&B is about a first world problem?!

MuddyWellyNelly · 04/06/2013 10:34

Keztrel you've posted the one no-no! I'm 3 years into TTC and Aussie shampoos are on our banned list. Yes crazy I know but when you are desperate Hmm. Actually they make me a bit itchy too though. Grrr.

You are right about S&B, but reading my post back I sounded especially precious! But I still want shiny hair Wink

I could have written this post, although my hair is just above shoulder level! Never find anything that works so only look good for the 48 hours after I come back from hairdressers :(

Keztrel · 05/06/2013 20:27

Sorry Muddy I had no idea! I'm not ttc or anything but always use Aussie. Slightly worried now!

MuddyWellyNelly · 05/06/2013 21:46

Evertonmint that's annoying! Do we have rare hair that shampoo companies can't be bothered helping Hmm.

Kez it's a colorant I think that's potentially linked to reduced fertility, but I'm sure it's all a bit of scare mongering. Normally I'd be completely dismissive but I am at the desperate stage!

Anyway I'm about to run out of the crap I'm currently using so better make a decision soon...

i have a similar hair type and find the 'say yes to carrots' shampoo and conditioner good.

rachywhite83 · 05/06/2013 22:00

I use jumping juniper shampoo bar from lush. I was washing it every day but now I can get away with up to 3 days. A bar lasts for ages about £5 for a bar

Loupee · 05/06/2013 22:05

I have fine greasy hair, and would also recommend the jumping juniper shampoo bar from Lush, I also use Veganese conditioner every third wash or so. I still wash my hair most days, but don't need to with this combination.

Perseis · 05/06/2013 22:08

Have you tried using more conditioner? My hair gets really greasy if I under-condition it. If I load on conditioner (lots all the way to roots, intensive conditioner on the ends every time I wash it) it takes longer to get greasy.

At the moment I'm pregnant so I'm using A'Kin very gentle shampoo and conditioner (which is lovely). When not being paranoid about chemicals I use Lush cynthia sylvia stout (makes hair so shiny) and american cream.

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 05/06/2013 22:09

I didn't have any luck with the jumping juniper bar. I used naked shampoo now, and only condition vanishingly rarely.

I have thick hair that's prone to greasiness too. It still looks pretty duff on day 2, but at least I'm using a more natural shampoo Grin.

MuddyWellyNelly · 05/06/2013 23:00

Thanks all. I saw the Akin and nearly bought it but have gone for something else for now. Ummm, skin blossom? Will try Akin next if it'sno use! Never tried Lush or even heard of the others so lots of options.

Never tried more conditioner but maybe one for when I have no plans to go out! I do find (as my hair is so thick) that blow drying makes it last a bit longer.

Now if I could find a cheaper hairdresser so i actually went, this would help Wink

I can cut hair! Well, boy's and men's hair. I don't know if I can cut female's hair. Who wants me to visit Grin?
