How can I stop my stupid, thick, long hair frizzing & knotting overnight?

I go to bed with smooth, sleek waves courtesy of my Babyliss Big Hair. Eight hours of tossing and turning and occasional night sweats and it's kinked, frizzy, and matted into a horrible ball at the back.

I've tried a hairnet - no difference. I bought a silk scarf thingy online - couldn't tie it at the back myself, when tied it came off anyway. I bought a silk bonnet thing instead - it would fit a small child's head and comes off during the night.

Is there anything else I can try, apart from sleep sitting up? My hair is just past my shoulders.

Plait?

Cassiphone · 03/06/2013 22:31

I french braid mine at night to stop it tangling.

Trills · 03/06/2013 22:32

Wash and style in the morning.

When mine was still long I plaited it every night. It never got knotty or frizzy.

go to bed with rags in your hair
to get ringlets in it
or the soft long rollers for the dame effect

Would plaiting it mean you had to re-style in the morning? I wash mine before bed at night and tie back with old socks!!
I also have a "chillow" which gets rid of night sweats :) it is wonderful!!

Would the keratin blowdry treatment be any good?

ZaraW · 04/06/2013 08:21

I have the same problem. I sometimes use a cotton cap similar to what chemo patients use to keep their head warm. I went through chemo 4 years ago so had a stock of them already I got on E bay. I add a couple of drops of argan oil to my hair and the heat from wearing the cap conditions whilst I am asleep.

Silk pillow case?

RiffyWammal · 04/06/2013 09:20

Thanks for the replies, you're fab. Last night I put it in a loose ponytail with the silk cap on top, the cap came off as usual but the ponytail has stopped it frizzing and knotting - the frizzing seems to come from where it touches my hot sweaty neck. Lovely.

Trills I only wash my hair once a week, because it takes ages and I am lazy. Smile That's why I want to keep it looking 'just blow-dried' as long as possible!

I couldn't plait it myself and I am very impressed at anyone who can French plait their own hair!

I have a chillow, actually, which I had forgotten about entirely - I found it too uncomfortable to sleep on. Maybe I should try it again.

I like the sound of the keratin blow dry and the silk pillow case, I will look into them thankyou. I fancy sleeping in some kind of rollers too as I like the soft curl look, but I think they might be too uncomfortable to sleep in?

something like this
www.amazon.co.uk/Dimples-Soft-Sticks-Bendy-Curlers/dp/B001UJIWQ4/ref=pd_sim_d_3
this is cheapish one but there are more expensive ones

My dd has this problem which I am trying to solve at the moment. Tonight is the first night for the silk bonnet! She kept sliding off the silk pillowcase. She has her hair in bunches every night. Also, on a Friday night I slather it in coconut oil to help with the dryness.

thebestpossibletaste · 04/06/2013 10:30

Riffy, I don't do a french plait, just a very loose braid - split hair into three, keep crossing them over. It's very loose and not neat at all, but just stops it getting knotty in the night. Otherwise I look like a wild woman in the morning who hasn't brushed her hair for years!

RiffyWammal · 04/06/2013 10:50

Thanks, I will try doing a plait tonight. I also really like the look of these Sleep-in Rollers although they are a bit dear and I can't see me bothering to go through that rigmarole every night! I am often too lazy tired to even take my daily lenses out properly and just flick them on the carpet next to the bed. Blush

My chillow lives inside my pillowcase, it's too cold to sleep directly on it!
