Holiday sandals/holy grail - help me

Am on holiday in Devon next week where there will be much trudging, messing about on beaches, harbours, castles etc and walking on cobbles. I need comfortable, non-hideous sandals, either flat or a wedge or a very chunky heel, height 3 inches max, a proper footbed or cushioned insole, none of those horrible thin plastic soles, any straps need to be not too high up the ankle IYSWIM because I have the ankles of an east end boxer and high straps are very unflattering.

Budget is limitless. I am desperate.

If you complete this quest I will anoint you Queen of the Britons. Probably.

I just bought some Saltwater sandals from Toast. They are very comfy and can be worn in the sea! Hence saltwater name :)

I bought in www.toast.co.uk/product/footwear/F1AN9/SALT-WATER+SANDAL.htm?categoryref=/category.aspx?categoryid=footwear&seoterm=footwear&&pcat=footwear&adimage=&clr=F1AN9_Redred. Depends on your sizing as some sold out but worth a look. Have a great holiday.

Ooh, those are nice! I'm not sure about the lining though, do they feel hard when they're on? I need a bit of cushioning.

Not at all, but they are very flat. It feels like wearing slippers! I had them on all day today and they are the first sandals I have bought that don't give me a blister in first few hours.

I'm a size 7 and they are a great fit.

I have some Gabor ones. They are very, very comfortable and not too ugly BUT I have not been over-impressed with the quality. For the price, I would have expected them to last much better than they have tbh.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/06/2013 19:55

They are this sort of thing, but the heel has worn very badly.

MadBusLady · 02/06/2013 19:58

Ah, that's a shame, I've got those ones open in another tab. Yeah, for £85 you expect to get wear out of them.

I wore my silver Saltwater sandals out for the first time today and they were very comfortable. No rubbing or blisters despite walking through the woods. They also have the right amount of foot coverage for me.

Fitflops?

nothruroad · 02/06/2013 20:20

Hush puppies rosebud sandals are the best I've ever had - they have a thick sole and great shock absorbency. They are so comfy, I have major foot problems and can wear them all day.

How about Birkenstocks? Great for beach. You either love 'em or hate 'em but they are dead comfortable and they also have some more feminine coloured patent ones now like these which are currently on offer: www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_084010892353_-1

What about these from good ole' Clarks?

butterfliesinmytummy · 03/06/2013 10:38

I have these in brown, look fab with really bright pedicure and feel like slippers. They are like birkenstocks but super flexible. Bought similar ones for my kids too and they wear them non stop.

QueenCadbury · 03/06/2013 12:46

tweet what's the sizing of saltwater like? I can either be a 5 or a 6 so not sure which to go for? I usually wrar Birkenstocks which I love and find very comfy but I like the look of these for a change.

Tweet2tweet · 03/06/2013 15:40

I found them true to size, I bought a size 40 and they are a great fit. To compare, I'm usually a 6.5 in Clarks and 7 in Birkenstocks. I actually prefer them to Birkenstocks as my feet feel more secure but just as comfortable.
If you spend over £75 up until 9 June this code, S13f15, gives free P&P.

Bluestocking · 03/06/2013 16:26

You need fitflops. The cork insole in Birks goes slippery very quickly and they don't take kindly to getting wet.

QueenCadbury · 03/06/2013 16:59

Thanks tweet. That's why I fancy them, to keep my feet secure. I'm just wondering if I can really justify getting them when I have 2 pairs Birkenstocks and a pair of havianas?
