one piece abroad

I'm off to Spain in August. I'm not massive but am a size 12_14 and a bit flabby round the tummy area. I'm trying to get in shape but realistically know that won't really happen. I've always worn bikinis abroad but do feel self conscious in them. There are some nice one piece costumes around, Kelly brook ones are pretty. shall I think what the hey and wear a bikini or be more comfy in a swimsuit?

How about a high waisted bikini? here

bluebluecow · 31/05/2013 23:33

I do quite like that but wonder whether it would do my ample backside any justice

Wear a bikini. You will be fine when you get there - other people re always a lot less perfect than you imagine when at home in the cold picturing everyone else toned, tanned and gorgeous. You will stand out more in a one piece, I reckon, anyway, and just make people think you must be chubby/self conscious.

Wear a bikini with pride is my advice Grin

I agree you stand out more in a one piece
What about a tankini where you can cover up walking around but can roll or fold it up into a bikini when lying down?

If you feel more relaxed in a one piece then I don't think you HAVE to wear a bikini. I had a a lovely swimsuit with mesh/ see though panels that I wore loads on cruise holidays recently.

yy, you should wear what makes you feel most comfortable. PPs are right, a onepeice will attract the eye on a beach full of bikinis so, IMO something striking is better than plainish or black - makes it look like a style choice rather than the need to hide.

WRT the high waisted bikinis, how well they suit depends on body type of course. They're miraculous on an inverted triangle - creates what looks like a perfect hourglass. Also very flattering on an hourglass figure and good on straight up and down. Pear shapes tend to need a higher cut leg to bring the emphasis up to a slimmer point on the hips. The swimsuits in the same style work very well indeed on an apple, fives a fab waist and the tummy control really flattens things out.

You sound just like me size-wise but I am off to Spain on MONDAY (woohoooooo!) and will be wearing this bikini

I have lots of stretch marks on my tummy from recent pregnancies but I couldn't give a stuff Grin

Have a wonderful time!

If you are worried about people looking at you, you will be more conspicuous in a one-piece than you will be in a bikini, because everyone else (including many people much flabbier or larger or stretch-marked or scarred than you) will be wearing a bikini.

A high waisted bikini may cover more of your tummy but it might not make you feel more confident

EuroShaggleton · 02/06/2013 20:09

Take both and see what you feel like when you get there. I reckon you will probably feel comfortable in a bikini when you see the flesh on show!

bluebluecow · 02/06/2013 20:11

Yes, I think taking both may be the best option. I'll check out the high waisted ones too although I am a bit of a pear so not sure

And take a floaty cover up thing, if you might be self-conscious - that way you are only in the bikini in all its glory when you are laying down, you can pull the over up on as soon as you get up. It'll also be useful if you feel like you are getting a bit too much sun and want to cover up.
