Outfit for flying

SarahGoodwin33 · 31/05/2013 03:27

I am having my first trip abroad as Sarah as my bf has booked a weekend in Barcelona, can't wait!
I have clothes sorted for when I am there (I think!) but not sure what to wear on plane. Obvious thought is leggings and tunic top or similar for comfort but want to glam up a little lol, got to keep up with the stewardesses and they perfect look!
Any thoughts?

Do you have a budget? How about a pashmina or cashmere cardigan?

If money no object take a look here

Nehru · 31/05/2013 06:53

Oh ffs. It's an hour on a plans hardly top class travel.
West whatever you're wearing that day

Karbea · 31/05/2013 07:11

Flying to Barcelona is a short flight, you don't need to worry about being comfy or anything just wear what you like. If its still cold hear I'd suggest wearing a t shirt\vest under your blouse/jumper so you can take the top layer off when you land as it'll be much warmer when you land and you often have to faff about at the airport going through customs etc

NewChoos · 31/05/2013 08:37

How about black trousers, ballet pumps, agree re t shirt/vest and also big fan of pashmina's.
Alternatively a maxi dress? Actually saw a really nice navy and cream, one in M&S yesterday for around £35.

How exciting for you :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2013 10:37

these

A cami

An open light jacket or shirt

Cardigan or blazer if it's cold this end

Pashmina

Ballet shoes

Don't forget your sunglasses!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2013 10:38

Actually, a light scarf would be better than a pashmina. Something like this maybe?

HappyGirlNow · 31/05/2013 12:47

Nehru wouldn't your delightful approach be more suited to the AIBU board?

HazleNutt · 31/05/2013 13:18

It's such a a short flight, no need for any special flying outfit, really. Just wear layers, as aircraft are either boiling hot or freezing cold.

Eskino · 31/05/2013 13:29

Socks! Are my only advice as my feet get freezing on planes and there's not much room to wriggle about and get warm. We're flying next week, ill be in skinny jeans, vest and sloppy sweater, ballet flats and ill have a pair of warm socks in my pocket to stick on.

I'm not a glam person really but you could stick a chunky necklace over a vest and cardi to look like you've made an effort.

IMO the flight attendants aren't all that glamourous these days Especially if its an early flight or budget airline.

Happy Holiday! Barcelona is beautiful and fun Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2013 13:31

OP looks as if she has v special reasons for wanting to make a bit of an occasion of it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2013 13:31

And yes to socks.

Iseeall · 31/05/2013 13:34

No tight waistbands. Easy on easy off shoes at passport control, no belts or excess bangles etc unless you want to take them all off.
I agree with all those suggesting you take a wrap/pashmina on board. very useful

SarahGoodwin33 · 31/05/2013 15:08

Thanks everyone. Yes it's only a short flight but new to travelling as Sarah hence wanting to seek advice!
Fight is BA at lunchtime so nice and sociable and not having to get up at some unearthly hour!
I think some nice skinny trousers and ballet pumps, light top and oversized scarf.
Will have a think and look, ta againx

I don't "get" special travelling outfits. For long flights you need to be comfy, but within Europe, wear whatever you like.

I always avoid fake jewellery that will set the security scanners off and always wear socks so I don't have to walk barefoot across the scuzzy floor if asked to take my shoes off. Otherwise, I just wear what I would normally wear at the weekend.

tak1ngchances · 31/05/2013 15:19

OP how do you mean you are new to flying as Sarah? Barcelona is so stunning, you will have the best time. Envy

Karbea · 31/05/2013 15:24

Euro I agree about metal, I try to avoid anything metal, belts, jewellery etc i still seem to set the alarm off. My friend had a tiny metal badge on her knickers and ended up getting strip searched!!!

enthusiasmcurbed · 31/05/2013 15:25

If you look on Sarahs' profile you'll see what she means.

higgle · 31/05/2013 15:42

Well, Sarah, from the photographs on your profile you look very stylish, so I'm sure you will look good whatever you wear. My only tips are to think about temperature variation, can be hot or cold on plane and I'd second the bit about easy to remove shoes and some socks. I have just got some Ash trainers that I need DH to pull very hard on for me to get out of, so I won't be wearing those for my holiday flight. Hope you have a great time.

Nehru · 31/05/2013 15:44

Christ Sarah. You're pretty glam anyway. Anything.

SirRaymondClench · 31/05/2013 16:00

I don't have any advice but wanted to say Bon Voyage! You look very glam and will have a fabulous time in Barcelona! (very jealous)

redmayneslips · 31/05/2013 18:23

Sarah, you already look FAB so I'd say anything you chose will look great. I like the idea of skinny trousers, over sized scarf, very chic. Leave lots of room in your bag for shopping in Barcelona. Have a great holiday!

tak1ngchances · 31/05/2013 19:38

Your outfit sounds perfect. You're absolutely gorgeous anyway, you can probably wear anything at all and look great.

SarahGoodwin33 · 13/06/2013 10:14

Had a wonderful time in Barcelona with my lovely bf. We had some lovely meals out and made the trip to the nearest beach for a romantic stroll (not bad considering I don't like sand lol).
As predicited I took way too many clothes and think I was driving him mad with my numerous changing before finally decided what to wear.
I was a bit nervous as it's my first time through passport control as Sarah but it felt really good to have my passport as me at last!!
Hotel was very quaint and the staff lovely, we had 3 lovely lie-ins (ahem...) and I really didn't want to come home.
Can't wait for summer holiday so I can get into a bikini (I have about 6 but never worn them out...!)
