How lucky your stylist did the patch test properly. Can you get a vegetable based dye instead? One of my friends has very sensitive skin & she is still dark haired, there are less aggressive products out there. I think you need to avoid products containing PPDs or which have only very low amounts of PPDs.

Thanks Eastpoint, I'll see what the stylist suggests. What does your friend use ?

Why don't you consider going grey? It will in all likelihood be your perfect colour for your skintone.

Have a look at 'going gray looking great- gray cafe'. Loads of women are starting to consider why women dye their hair and yet most men don't feel compelled to do so. What is wrong with grey hair really? I am not yet forty and am trying to grow mine in.

I don't think people look older with grey hair.

The chemicals used in darker hair dyes are the worst.

Another thing to consider is what your skintone is. If it is cool your hair colour will always be too warm if you dye it because warmth has to be added to counter green from where it bleaches the hair.

Forgot to add that you may have a PPD allergy. They can happen at anytime but it can mean you become sensitive/allergic to all sorts of other things. All permanent dark hair dyes have PPD because it is part of what helps the colour bond.

Going grey is not an option! Grin

Henna may be your only one! Smile

Seriously google grey hair pinterest or the highland fashionista.

Good luck x

I'm also allergic to hair dye . I am not grey yet but have some grey hairs , I still get my hair dyed but it has to be done using foils .

Most annoying thing is not being able to dye my brows and lashes.

Frantically googling hair colouring without using dye! Boiling walnut shells to make a rinse seems to be the way to go! Grin

I recently developed problems with hair dye..(also plasters and latex..all at the same time) My hairdresser came up with the alternative of using an oil based permanent colour instead (think it was Loreal) . It worked fine..no reaction whatsoever.

It was however more expensive than normal colour:( There are several oil basesd hair colourants out there (salon only) so worth asking.
