Dying over bleached blonde hair (and not ending up green)!

I recently went to the hairdressers to go for brown hair with blonde highlights, turned out to be a LOT more blonde than I'd hoped! I was honest with the hairdresser so they dyed it again for me, but only with a semi-perm colour. It started off a warm/ light brown abut after washing it about five times it's already very light again.

I want it to be brown so should I just use a semi myself? Is there a brand you would recommend? I'd really rather avoid ending up green!

To avoid going green you need to choose colours which contain red tones. Brown colours which are 'warm' or chestnut wont turn your hair green.

My favourite colour when going from bleached to brown is schwarzkopf country colours as they are gentle on my hair and never turn my ash toned hair grey or green. My favourite is Highlands chestnut.

Hope that helps Smile

Not even red tones but "not" green tones.

A light golden brown would be great. Clairol Light Golden brown will not send you green.

Avoid Loreal Hazlenut (6.0 I think) or any deepish neutral which contain some green ash.

In fact, do a strand test, and not worry about the outcome!

I've just dyed my heavily highlighted blonde hair with nice and easy light golden brown. I got 2 semi perms. First one turned it pale reddish, second one took it to light brown with a hint of red. I'm happy with it-it looks really dark on the box, but its natural looking.

I would use the Nice'n'Easy non permanents and get a warm tone. Anything ash or neutral has the potential to turn you green, so you want colours on the warm end of the spectrum. The non permanents will absorb well onto bleached hair, but will wash out more quickly. They will add tones to the rest of your hair, but won't change the underlying colour. Even semi-perm colours have peroxide in them to help the colour take - which is all well and good but it does bleach the underlying hair.
Alternatively, you could consider using a mineral hair dye - Daniel Field does these & they can work well on bleached hair too - but you should definitely do a strand test.

You need to put two semi colors on it to try and get it to say.You need to re pigment the hair as its been stripped by the bleach that's why the color won't stay on top of it.

Get a red semi perm color put it on, rinse dry etc and then get the desired color you want it to be and put this on next ,if its semi perm then there will be no damaging chemicals in it.

As well as a strand test do an skin test before any color HTH

Personally I would just go back to the hairdressers and ask them to put some low lights back through it. That's what I did when I had a bleaching disaster and it looked nice and natural.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to have a look at the suggested warm/ red browns and buy two boxes. A bit gutted as I know the heavy highlighting will have damaged my hair when all I wanted was a few subtle streaks.

I bought Cocoa Red by the same brand. Do you think this would work on my bleached hair?
