Feeling a little deflated

I've spent days following this blog and her 4 part plan for finding and wearing your style. I've collected images from pinterest and saved them to a secret board, gathered lots of outfts I really like, identified what I really want in my wardrobe and went to buy some clothing I need, only to discover most if not all of what I've pinned is last season stock and all out of stock. Im actually literally gutted.

I'm useless at this shopping and fashion thing and thought I was doing really well. it turns out everything I like is old stock and I haven't yet found anything current stock Sad

There is no point to this thread btw, I just wanted to complain!

You have my sympathies.

I can never, ever find what I'm looking for, mainly because I don't know what I'm looking for. Nothing ever fits properly - if it fits on the waist the bottom is too tight or vice verse. When I look in the mirror I don't think I'm a particularly odd shape (5'2", size 8/10 with short legs) but Nothing Ever Fits. I'm a complete fashion fail and have been for four decades now. I worry about dressing too young but I'm not ready for elasticised waists & shirtdresses yet. When I think I've found a 'uniform' that works (say, leggings, tunic, tall flat boots) then that particular look is trashed by MN fashionistas Hmm

At least you have made a good positive start by putting together your pin board - well done. Good luck! Smile

Nqp
Don't give a second thought to what mn says you should or shouldn't wear. It's all bollocks. Shock

If you like it and it suits your size and shape then wear it.
I hate snobbish attitudes to fashion.

Not everyone wants to wear skinny jeans etc.

Have you tried ebay?

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 30/05/2013 09:14

I've just decided to part with some things on eBay and if they sell will give buying ago. I'm scared of eBay tho, you hear so many horrible stories

Don't be scared of ebay, as a buyer you have a lot of rights so if something you receive is genuinely not as described or has something wrong with it, ebay are on your side.

Cassiphone · 30/05/2013 09:28

I gave up on shopping targets for particular items years ago - with fast fashion you can guarantee it won't be there by the time you get around to buying it, within weeks let alone a whole season.

I use my pinterest as a look book - silhouettes I like, colours, styles etc. Then I collect online shopping sites / retail shops that roughly align to that look and browse periodically. When it all gets too hard I have my fall back which is slim fit dark jeans, nice cami or tee, scarf, leather jacket... I see it as a work in progress so I try not to beat myself up about it.

ihatethecold Thank You Smile

And thanks Cassiphone too - sound advice Smile

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 30/05/2013 09:44

Thanks, I'm not bothered about being 'infashion' I just like things that look good

On me and make me feel better about myself. My board is full of shirts, boot cut jeans and cardigans. As well as a line skirts (which are impossible to get hold of!) scarves and long necklaces. It's just finding them now and on a budget. If I had hundreds of £ to spend it wouldn't be a problem. By I have a very small budget.

Ebay can be great for buying last seasons clothes! You'd be surprised at how much you can track down. I used to rip clothes I liked out of magazines. I recently went through the pile on ebay and found unworn tops that I had been coveting 3 or 4 years before. As long as it isn't something that has gone out of style and would look silly, it can be much cheaper to find thingss when they're goen from the shops.

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 30/05/2013 10:36

I've worked it out! I've worked out how I can make my existing wardrobe fit into what I want it to look like Grin I was rather down about it all this morning, but now I'm starting to feel better. I'm off out to natal an in the hope they have what I'm looking for. (Some long vests in bright clolours to go under existing slightly too short t-shirts, some nice sandles and a couple of necklaces/scarfs.)

I love ebay!!

Fairyliz · 30/05/2013 17:36

Another ebay fan here. I sometimes browse aroud the shops to see what I like in real life and then look on ebay! Its surprising how many things you can find six months later.

Wiggy29 · 30/05/2013 20:10

Hey, I read your post and really related, after having my second child I feel like none of my work/ going out clothes are appropriate and I need some chic casual wear. I talked about it in my blog and I hope you don't mind but I referenced the blog you first mentioned, I'm looking forward to reading it fully. If you're interested, here's the link:

sandersonsmithstory.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/style-slump-update-1.html

It sounds daft, but it's kind of thrown me as I normally feel pretty confident in what I wear but at the moment I wonder round the shops and, other than shoes and jewellery, there is very little that appeals to me or seems suitable for my life at the moment. Sad

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 31/05/2013 08:38

I don't mind, I found it quite helpful!

I'm feeling pretty good today, managed to get little bits and pieces to make my existing clothes feel stylish instead of frumpy. I need to take back some bits as I'm not sure on them and by expiearience I know that means I won't wear them!
I'm also watching a few items on eBay, I may even bid!
Thanks all.
