Caught a glimpse of the backs of my thighs this morning, it wasn't pretty. My right leg much worse than my left, for some reason? Looking for a cream and any other tips for getting rid. 7 weeks til my hols, gulp! Thanks in advance.

Do you run? I took up running last month after a few years off and the lumps and bumps in that area disappeared pretty quickly. Not completely, but good enough for me to feel better about wearing a swimsuit.

theladylovescupcakes · 30/05/2013 08:18

Thanks for your reply poppy. I've just started a 10week couch to 3k programme. I walk 1/2hr 4 times a week and do 2 body combat classes! Still lumpy!

I don't know if I believe in creams for things like this personally. I have it on the backs of my legs and the appearance is improved a bit by exfoliating and using a regular body lotion. I think like PoppyWearer said, exercise can shift it as its more under the skin.

Cassiphone · 30/05/2013 09:31

Body brushing and a paste made from instant coffee (most cellulite creams are mainly caffeine, it stimulates circulation). But body brushing is the thing that worked best for me.

theladylovescupcakes · 30/05/2013 10:58

I'll give the body brushing a bash. I do have a body brush but it's like anything else, I start it with gusto, then forget once or twice, etc etc. But that view in the mirror this morning gave me a surprise - I will have to get back to it.

I'm running 3-5k a couple of times a week, so you might see more improvement the further into it you get.

Body brushing is worth a go, definitely.

bettycocker · 30/05/2013 17:12

I'd be interested to hear about how long it has taken before people have seen results from body brushing.

I've been at it for a few days and have started using Weleda birch cellulite oil. So far there's no change, but it's meant to take about a month before you see a difference.

meditrina · 30/05/2013 17:19

You are much more likely to see a difference from the massage, rather than what cream/oil you are rubbing in.

But I suspect that, like stretch marks, nothing really works (and it's down to your genes). Because if anything did, we'd all know about it.

bettycocker · 30/05/2013 17:45

I know there is no miracle cure, but it's worth a try!

meditrina · 30/05/2013 18:31

Oh, I've tried all sorts of stuff! French pharmacies have all sorts of things to rub in, and also sell miracle herbal stuff to make tisanes with.

But IME, the only thing that makes a (temporary) improvement is massage/kneading. Isn't brushing meant to work by stimulating the lymph system? Massage does the same, and can help shift any retained water in problem areas making it look a bit better.

Ujjayi · 30/05/2013 18:37

Body brushing daily and Tracey Anderson's Mat Workout.

Agree that no magic creams exist - choose one that appeals to you - whether that's aroma or because it seems like an indulgence you will use. I really like the Champney's Thai body butter. It has lemongrass and sandalwood in it and smells divine.

bettycocker · 30/05/2013 18:55

I like the sound of the Champney's Thai body butter. Smile That must smell bloody gorgeous. The Weleda one smells really good and it is an extremely good moisturiser.

I've heard that the French take cellulite more seriously than we do. I've heard about how a sluggish lymph system can make cellulite worse.

JazzDalek · 30/05/2013 19:01

Yes to body brushing.

  1. Dry brush
  2. Shower, scrubby glove or exfoliate (coffee grounds or salt or sugar)
  3. Spend a good few minutes each leg massaging heartily with oil (any will do, but you could try Weleda Birch Cellulite Oil, link below)

JazzDalek · 30/05/2013 19:02

Oh just saw the Weleda has already been mentioned. Must read before posting Blush

theladylovescupcakes · 30/05/2013 22:00

Just popped the birch oil into my basket, rave reviews online. Must also get my body brush out. I'm exercising a lot more so hopefully it'll all help. Thanks all!

I've been using the birch oil and body brushing for a week now. I think my stomach might have slightly improved.

My friend swears by the birch oil, and she think it has really helped.

Cyb · 31/05/2013 07:34

The only thing that ever reduced my cellulite was losing weight. And especially cutting down on bread and sugar

Eliza22 · 31/05/2013 15:32

Cut out (as much as you can) refined foods and sugars.
Drink 8 glasses of water daily.
Use a body brush in upward, sweeping movements at least 4/5 x weekly.
Continue with your walking/light jogging.

That's what I aim for. I'm 50. I have cellulite. I need to lose 10lbs (at least).

theladylovescupcakes · 31/05/2013 16:14

Thanks for all the info. I'm exercising a lot more and watching what I'm eating (1 3/4 lb down this week, yay!) rapidly approaching 40 so just want to feel healthy and look half way decent!

There are many ways to remove cellulite easily. Do regular exercise like squats, swimming, cycling etc. Try cellulite massage. Massage helps to tone your body easily. Apply some natural cellulite creams. It is the proven method to remove cellulite easily. There are some effective cellulite cream available revitashape, cellutherm, cellulean etc.

NUFC69 · 03/07/2013 12:53

There is a comparison article in the "Daily Telegraph" today about cellulite creams/gels. The only two they rated were one by, I think, Dior, which got 9 out of ten, but they also recommended a Nivea one, which cost, I think, just under £11, which got 8 out of ten. Sorry, can't tell you what the names were, but the Nivea one might be worth looking at.

Missbopeep · 03/07/2013 13:36

I really wouldn't go by what has been written in a publication- who knows what back handers might be involved in product promotion.

How can a cream possibly penetrate the deep layers of skin and 'remove' lumpy fat? It's rubbish.

The only way is weight loss, and exercise to tone up.

There isn't really much you can do, except learn to live with it unfortunately. I am small and slim (8-10) and still have cellulite, despite running, massage, cream etc. Most adult women do, it's normal and should not be seen as a 'fault' to correct.

With regard to French women, yes they are over-occupied with cellulite (I married into a French family). The French, like other Latins - Italian, Spanish are smaller-built than the Anglo/Saxon/Nordic people in general. Women have smaller frames and bones, smaller breasts, less body fat. I'm considered slim in the UK but average in France. Slim is a size 4 in France! They do seem to have less cellulite but I think it goes along with the different body shape. I've stopped comparing as there is nothing I can do about it!
