Hi, looking for advice as I have no idea. I live in jeans and have a few pairs but cannot tell which type of jean is supposed to go with which type of shoe. I am sure there must be a rule that I should be following...

The jeans I have are: boot-leg (which I wear most often), straight leg, skinny (have just bought a pair and really don't know what I can wear with these).

The shoes I have are: trainers, converse hi-tops, 'short' boots with a heel, beaded sandals, flip-flops, Birkenstocks, flat calf-high boots.

TIA

Bootleg = any

Straight = any

Skinny = any

Really? DD refuses to wear converse trainers with bootleg jeans. I thought there must be some kind of 'rule' out there.

There are no rules. As long as they're no bell bottom flares, converse will go with boot cut.

Your skinnies should go nicely with both pairs of boots. Have you tried rolling/turning your straight legs up a bit to show a bit of ankle and wearing your sandals/flip flops & Birks with them? I like that look.

No idea about Converse of bootcuts though.

I like bootcuts with boots, personally. The tricky bit is that if you wear your bootcuts with heeled boots sometimes they are then too long to wear with flat shoes like converse. I get around this by having multiple pairs of bootcuts...some I have taken to the tailor to have taken-up to the correct length to wear with flats (take the shoes with you) and others I have taken-up (or left as-is) to wear with heels. Skinnies are nice with ballet flats, moccasins, driving shoes or for tucking into tall boots. Straight-leg or boyfriend jeans work well with converse and other flat shoes or even ankle booties (roll and cuff above where the boot starts).
