Hi

This may seem like a really stupid question, but I want to do a bun like in this picture. Can anyone explain how please?

Loose pony about 3in above nape of neck.
Loosely twist ponytail, then wrap around bobble.
Use pins (not grips) to hold in place.

Claires Accessories do a bun making kit. It contains one of those spongey bun makers, grips and a couple of bobbles. Basically you put your hair in a loose pony tail, pull the tail through the bun maker, arranging hair to cover it, then pop a bobble over the whole thing and tuck in the ends.

You can do a messy bun by grabbing hair as if you are going to put it into a pony tail, twist it around in a bun and then wrap a hair tie around it( next to your head iyswim). There are some videos on you tube on how to put your hair up in a bun.

Thank you for all the advice. When you say pins, do you mean those big kind of open grips please?

It looks like she's had rollers in to give her 'head hair' some body/volume. This style is so pretty and simple but one I find impossible to achieve on my fine lifeless mop :(

I've just managed a fairly neat bun, first try, following the instructions from worldgonecrazy.
Thank you!

Yes- pins are like open grips.
I do use a bun 'donut' sometimes but it gives a big, neat bun rather than the loose, messy twist in the pic you linked to.

Thank you, I've probably got some somewhere. I'm usually quite good with these things, but I've got long hair with a very 'soft' texture and lots of layers. The layers look good when it's loose but sometimes makes it very hard to style. I've tried thd bun doughnuts, but I end up with a very neat bun too, as I have to manically tuck the layers in perfectly otherwise they just ping out and you can see the doughnut. I will have to have a practice at doing some messy bind without.

I've tried today by putting it in a loose ponytail, wrapping it around, putting a band around it and kind of pulling bits out and securing it with grips.
