I'm going out to Monaco for a month for work. I'll be staying on a yacht (which will totally out me to anyone who knows me in RL). What on earth do I wear? I'm not exactly going to be going out to casinos or anything but I would like to blend in which may be difficult given my current wardrobe which is rather weird eclectic. I could probably afford to buy one or two new things from H&M or somewhere before I go, but that's about my limit budget-wise. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Smile

I work for a yacht charter company so go on yachts regularly. Think carefully about your shoes no heels or marking shoes. For walking around the yacht you need shoes that have a bit of grip but small tread so no stones get stuck in them and then scratch the deck. Linen trousers and a nice top go well. Long flowing cotton top with belt and cropped trousers. Infact fitted cropped trousers would work really well. Take cardigans or pashmina for the evening. For the evening you could wear wedges for casual elegance. Make up but subtlety done. Get a fake tan done properly before you go so your skin looks good and nice nails and toes. Hair down but tidy. I would pack in a squashy bag as hard suitcases ruin yachts. I know it's a crewed yacht but I would take some Milton tablets. Loos on yachts tend to smell due to the nature of them after a while, flick one of those down and it makes it much fresher.
Take good mosquito protection with you but get a roll on rather than a spray as if you spray it in a cabin you may feel like you have gassed yourself! Pack a careful small capsule wardrobe with everything going with everything. If you are on a crewed yacht but as an employee rather than a guest you may find you don't have th biggest cabin with limited storage.

That sounds like fun Grin.

I second trousers, raffia wedges, flip flops and smart but non-marking flat shoes (a new pair of white plimsolls perhaps).

A cross-body handbag is good for jumping on and off tenders/pontoons etc when going ashore. And Nice etc can be quite pick-pockety.

Secure swim wear in case you get to partake in some watersports - not string bikinis! Especially with colleagues/clients..

Small bottles of environmentally friendly toiletries also.

ENJOY!

A light weight fitted waterproof jacket would also be useful for windy days if the boat ever moves.

Awesome - thank you so much everyone! Packing tomorrow...

Have Milton tablets (for the mooncup) so will def take some of those, and for some reason I didn't even think about mosquitoes! They love me so that will be an essential.

Don't wear dresses unless you don't mind people looking up your skirt as you climb the ladder Grin speaking from 2 years plus experience working on a yacht

oh enjoy!

mosquitos and mooncups Shock Shock Shock

I'd pack a capsule wardrobe, ish, some colourful dresses, mainly neutrals though a couple skirts, some cropped trousers.. etc. I used to live on a yacht, and agree - be very careful with what you have on your feet. I nearly had many an accident in heels/sandals, and even some boots/trainers. You need very grippy soles for getting on/off
