Rapeseed oil, olive oil, avacado oil etc - does anyone use it on their body to moisturise?

I'm thinking an oil must do more moisturising than a wussy cream.

I know this sort of stuff can be messy - but is there any reason not to use it daily? And what's best?

Anyone know?

I use sweet almond oil after every shower - I buy it in litre bottles from amazon. It's fab!

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 26/05/2013 20:56

I use olive sometimes. It's actually less moisturizing I find than rich creams. I have v dry skin and oil is quicker to use.

bulletproofgerbil · 26/05/2013 22:38

I use virgin coconut oil on face, body and hair. Sometimes almond. I rate them both.

Urbanvoltaire · 27/05/2013 00:53

I use almond oil as a hand & nail moisturiser, small bottle about £1.50 from chemist shop. Started using it when I read that a "hand" model swears by it Smile

JazzDalek · 27/05/2013 01:11

Yes! I use:

Sweet almond
Evening primrose
Avocado
Olive
Castor
Argan
Coconut
Macadamia nut

Absolutely love oils, and definitely find them better and cheaper than creams or lotions, though I do use those sometimes too.

Apply to damp, warm skin after a good old buff in the shower/bath, and take some time to massage them in really well. You'll feel really pampered afterwards.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 27/05/2013 01:20

I've recently discovered the loveliness of argan oil on the skin, having used it on my hair for ages.
Need to do more experimenting I think, as my face feels a bit dry after a couple of days. It's perfect on the body, though - soaks in really quickly. I'm hoping it'll help my crêpey stomach.

Almond oil also nice for cleansing, but I've never used it for any length of time as I'm reay too lazy to properly cleanse every day Smile.

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 27/05/2013 08:54

I think Argan is def the best in terms of wrinkle reduction, closely followed by rosehip, but that is thinner.

Shotgun- I have the same thing with oils- I therefore tend to alternate, one night an oil, the next some gloopy cream.

HazleNutt · 27/05/2013 09:30

I love coconut oil, you can use it for everything - bath oil, hair mask, body moisturizer. And smells great!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 27/05/2013 18:03

another vote for virgin coconut oil... cheap, can be used for all sorts, even cooking, and makes skin lovely as well as a great overnight hair mask.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 28/05/2013 23:37

I do eat coconut oil - as a butter substitute for spreading mainly as it's supposed to be good after gallbladder removal. But I find it makes my eyes sore and my skin itchy, even if I use it on my hair.

Something about me just doesn't like it.

mercury7 · 29/05/2013 00:51

I use olive oil and then moisturizer on top, seems to help the oil sink in better

Littleturkish · 29/05/2013 06:15

Coconut oil! Amazing stuff.

charitygirl · 29/05/2013 15:16

I use avocado oil as a make up remover. No complaints.

FoxPass · 29/05/2013 16:10

I find avocado too smelly for body use, although I add small amounts to my sugar and olive oil home made exfoliator.

MumofMinx · 29/05/2013 18:42

I've recently started using almond oil on my face & it moisturises quite well.

FreshLeticia · 29/05/2013 19:26

I'm using a cute bottle of argan and macedemia face oil from Aldi - a snip at £3.99. It is lovely. Pop it on any dry bits and on eyelids/ lips in the evening. I like olive oil for legs too.

MrsDesperado · 29/05/2013 20:50

I also use olive oil then moisturise after like mercury. My skin has never looked or felt better.

Catsandtheirpizza · 31/05/2013 02:38

Pure Argan oil is lovely, but I really don't like smelling of compost. Has anyone found a less smelly version?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/05/2013 15:14

Don't you find the compost smell fades? Maybe try adding something - neroli oil? - to tone it down a bit.
I suppose it's a matter of finding something that's quite strongly-scented but gentle on the skin.
I find the smell doesn't linger for long, though (possibly deluded).

Catsandtheirpizza · 31/05/2013 15:59

Yes, maybe I need to add something.

I wasn't sure if the smell had gone or I had just got used to the smell of compost!

FoxPass · 03/06/2013 14:07

Just giving this a bump to ask if any oil lovers have tried emu oil? I got it for a skin problem and I have used it all over. It is fantastic! it's made from the fat of emus, it has amazing regenerative and calming skin properties. Have a read about it online, it's well worth trying. So far it's helped my dry shins, feet and nails, and I use it as a hair treatment and on my face too :)

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 03/06/2013 15:10

Does it smell of emu Confused

I've seen it in Holland and Barrett and thought it was one of those emollient things for aches and pains. (In fact I think I have some muscle rub thing which has emu oil in it)

I know Paula Radcliffe eats emu burgers. Perhaps we could have lovely skin and run fast as well!

FoxPass · 03/06/2013 17:40

no it actually has hardly any scent Smile maybe a tiny bit like lard, but it fades and is so good it doesn't bother me. helps with nappy rash and burns too!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 03/06/2013 18:47

I've heard about emu oil - that's next on my list to try.
