Best body moisturiser

nabootheenigma · 25/05/2013 18:34

Can any S&B junkies recommend a body moisturiser for normal/dry skin that's taken a bit of a beating from pregnancy and subsequent weight loss? Think deflated balloon tummy (and yes, I do realise creams can only do so much!)

Olive oil was my stretchmark saver, but it made clothes and sheets a bit yellow - I was chucking it on, though.

Thank you, wise owls.

Weleda birch cellulite oil is great - hasn't got rid of my cellulite, but then a) I didn't expect it to and b) I don't use it as frequently as they recommend because I am not made of money Grin

It's very nice and firming, though. All their oils that I've tried are lovely.

I also like L'Occitane body butters, Burt's Bees lotions for something lighter, and Karma Kream from Lush.

A cheaper option which is also very very effective is just plain butters and oils. The butters are solid and melt into the skin, leaving a beautifully soft, nourished feel. I get mine from Akoma - they have an extensive range:

Thanks, Jazz - really appreciate the links. Have only just plucked up the courage to delurk :)

I have a lovely L'Occitane one which I got as part of a set for Mothers' Day.
It is rose scented and is very rich but easily absorbed ( sorry for the ad speak)
I can also highly recommend Neutrogena body oil - a little goes a long way

OhCobblers · 25/05/2013 22:16

Nivea has always been a long term favourite but I also use Korres when I can afford it.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 25/05/2013 22:27

Lush Dream Cream or Kiehls Creme de Corps

FayeKorgasm · 25/05/2013 22:30

Elemis. It is ££'s but lasts and is amazing.

BornToFolk · 25/05/2013 22:30

E45 Nourish and Restore is brilliant. Nice and light and sinks in well but moisturises better than heavier body butters.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 27/05/2013 18:36

the garnier 7 day one in a green bottle is the best I have ever ever used. DH comments on my soft skin after i HAVE USED IT AND BEST OF ALL ITS CHEAP oops sorry for shouting... caps lock

steben · 27/05/2013 18:43

As a cheap ish option give the Nivea q10 firming body oil a go. I would rate it over bio oil and it has really improved the appearance of my horrid legs!

ShebaQueen · 27/05/2013 19:56

I like the Jergens ones, cheap and cheerful but they work.

nabootheenigma · 27/05/2013 20:10

Thanks for all the suggestions, so pleased I asked!

Body Shop cocoa butter hand and butter is still the softest, lushest thing I've found.

Leviticus · 27/05/2013 20:11

Hand and body lotion that should say!

BrandyAlexander · 27/05/2013 20:15

I would recommend three: body shop Shea butter body butter, l'occitaine Shea butter body butter and kiehls creme de corps. All very lush and great for dry skin.

suntodayplease · 27/05/2013 21:31

Kiehls creme de corps, the best moisturiser I've ever used. Not the cheapest by any means but it leaves skin feeling soft all day without any greasy feeling on the skin. I've used it for years and recommend it to lots of people who've all been impressed. Space NK are great about giving samples, occasionally John Lewis have this in their price match.

mervynmouse · 27/05/2013 22:04

Second the Garnier one, got a bottle today for £2 in Wilko. Works a treat.

HappyAsEyeAm · 28/05/2013 11:31

As a moisturiser for very dry skin, I can 100% recommend Flexitol for feet and legs www.healthmonthly.co.uk/flexitol_moisturising_foot_cream#sthash.H0iZ7ufv.dpbs which is on offer in Superdrug at the moment.

I have a deflated balloon tummy too (2 biggish babies and despite being pre pregnancy weight again, I am nowhere near pre pregnancy shape! My tummy especially has taken a battering) and it is helping. Not performing miracles, but helping. It has moisturised my legs wonderfully well though, as my knees were so, so dry after kneeling down to play and change nappies for hours on end.

I would like to try the mama mio waist defining cream, but it is ££ and I don't think I can justify it.

To the other posters - are the body moisturisers you are recommending firming, as well as moisturising, please?

HappyAsEyeAm · 28/05/2013 11:43

The weleda birch cellulite oil linked to above is on sale on amazon for £12 btw (not that I am trying to spend your money for you, OP)

nabootheenigma · 28/05/2013 13:10

Happy, thanks for the tip off :) My tummy is reasonably acceptable providing I don't bend over, at which point it resembles nothing human at all...

Mum wages aren't great, so special thanks for all the reasonably priced suggestions (though I do love Creme de Corps).

HappyAsEyeAm · 28/05/2013 13:31

naboo I think I might give the weleda birch oil a go, you know. It has fantastic reviews. I have put it in my amazon wish list, as I am doing a lot of impulse buying on the back of S&B threads at the moment. Last week, I bought a Jaeger dress (going back), Me and Em dress (already gone back) and a foot file. Today, I have bought some cropped Boden trousers. MNing is an expensive habit!

gaggiagirl · 28/05/2013 13:34

Another vote for body shop body butters the olive one is my new fave.

ToastieBun · 28/05/2013 13:38

I swear by coconut oil as a body moisturiser.

I've used many products of varying cost because I get a lot for free working for a multi-national hair and beauty company but nothing has ever come close to coconut oil as a body moisturiser.

Superdrug does 150ml pots for about £1.50 but depending where you live, you'll be able to pick up a vat of the stuff at an afro hairdressers for about 90p.

nabootheenigma · 28/05/2013 13:39

Right, I'll have a look on Amazon now. Had already decided a trip to Boots was in order today to get one of these much hyped foot files. Shame it's throwing it down in my neck of the woods. Very glad I found my way to S&B, despite the ever present temptation to spend.

nabootheenigma · 28/05/2013 13:41

Toastie does coconut oil have a lovely coconutty smell?

OP posts:
ToastieBun · 28/05/2013 13:43

Yes absolutely. It's really subtle and long-lasting but very 'natural'- not like the synthetic stuff in a lot of body moisturisers that is very strong but wears off after a while.
