Supportive flats to wear with skirts.....

.....is there such a thing?

I can't wear heels, flats only, and I can't wear anything that doesn't support my feet properly, like ballet pumps. Generally I'm in black leather lace-ups, or in trainers, both worn with trousers.

Can anybody suggest shoes I could wear with skirts without messing up my feet? I also have fairly wide feet, so a choice of width fittings would be ideal.

Budget is pretty flexible, and I'm so massively unfashionable that I have no opinions on colour, style etc !

Hush Puppies do ballet type that are supportive, or, Footglove at M&S.

Brogues are v trendy at the moment and lots of people wear them with skirts.

fitflop ballerinas are very supportive and go with skirts, trousers or skinnies. I live in mine.

Watching this with interest as I am looking for the same thing. I did have a pair of Clarks Un ballets with a nice padded sole, but they eventually fell to bits and the Hush Puppies Janessa shoes I bought to replace them although quite comfy are already looking very scuffed as the sole is so thin. I have been looking at Fitflop Due and also at a Portugese brand, Softino, but not sure of sizing in either so need to try them on in a shop even if I end up buying them online.

Have you thought about getting orthotics? Then you can wear whatever you want.

Thanks all - I don't think ballet flats (however well made) will be enough, my consultant told me to wear lace ups not slip ons (sorry I should have made clear in the OP I have a specific problem).

Had to google to work out what brogues are - those look very promising! Do we really think they're ok with skirts? I'm completely dense in fashion things, never been that interested but don't want to look ridiculous! In the summer would I be ok to wear them with flared/a-line skirts?

coco - m and s footglove is my guilty secret, I only go there if shopping alone (my friends are much cooler than me), but they are comfy.

mrsbert I do have orthotics insoles, but the thing is the private podiatrist told me I'd be able to wear them with any shoes, but the nhs consultant told me they only work with "sensible" shoes. Apparently private podiatrists make a lot of money selling them, so exaggerate the effects. On the nhs they won't give you orthotics if you don't agree to wear sensible shoes, as they think it's a waste of money because they don't really work.

I could get special orthotic shoes made, but apparently they'd be £1000 for the first pair, and £500 for each subsequent pair, so I'm hoping to avoid that for as long as possible with my insoles!

Every time someone comes on her with foot/shoe issues I recommend these. Comfiest and most supportive things ever. Not attractive in a conventional sense, but I think they're quite fun.

Hello. I'm a fellow orthotics wearer. My understanding is they work better with sensible shoes but the important thing is the right balance for you.

I've got a pair from reiker which I love. Nude flats with a wide wish band across the foot. Comfy and OK looking. I also wear ballet flats with a tiny strap for when I don't have to walk far, and have a single pair of beautiful taxi to restaurant table heels :-)

Marking my place as I have this problem every summer.my nhs orthoptics don't work with slip-ons, my much better custom ski ones are too chunky for sandals. Those Alegria ones look okay.

Yep, I think brogues with flared skirts would be fine. Google "brogues with skirts" and there's lots of ideas about there. I'd get some tan coloured ones I think.

Hotter have a good range. I'm shopping there at the moment to help with an arthritic ankle and back pain.

My mum wears insoles and loves Ecco shoes and Hotter. Most German brands seem to be good. Lace ups and skirts would look fine, lots of brouge types about.

The Fitflop Due are good. Size comes up quite large and wide so may be suitable for you. Suggest you try on a pair rather than order online. Mine took a week or so of blisters to break in properly but now they're so comfy and 'springy' to walk in.
