Looking for some truth and advice...! I have never really worn heels and when i do they are always either chunky ones or have a strap - this is because I have wide feet and am a bit of a wuss when it comes to trying not to wobble! I've stayed clear from them because they often cripple me but I am now desperate for a pair of high black shoes with a thin heel...they always look so beautiful and I think I am missing out. Here is the dilemma though - every pair I try is agony across my toes! they are getting crushed to bits and it's so sore!! So - are they always that painful? Is this an unspoken truth that we accept and just suck it up? Or can I find my perfect shoe out there somewhere...???? Prepared to pay for something that fits well....any thoughts?? thanks!

I also have very wide feet and would agree with others who have said New Look are the comfiest.

I have very wide feet and I wear heels every day, 4'' and above. I find the most confortable ones are by Cafe Noir, Kurt Geiger or Carvella

Can I recommend Nine West. I am an oldie...52, and can't teeter (and run for buses) in heels the way I used to. However I do have to attend quite a lot of black tie and cocktail type events and I like an elegant heel with those sorts of outfits. I have danced all night in Nine West shoes of various heel heights (they do medium heels as well as very high) and never given my feel a second thought, except to marvel at why they weren't hurting me. They also do loads of lovely colours.

I found this article and this article really interesting. My mother wore heels every day for about thirty years, then developed all kinds of crippling problems as a result (she needed orthopedic surgery on her feet) and now has to wear othoses and the ugliest imaginable orthopedic shoes.

I wore heels for about a decade, mostly at work, wearing something more comfy for the commute. Block heels and kitten herls were painless (I have narrow feet), but heels always felt somewhat limiting. I don't think you are missing out - unless you are really looking forward to bunions and foot surgery.

Sorry, orthoses, aka ugly pink bits of plastics.

I love heels. As work required me to dress in the ugliest sensible shoes possible, I would live in heels outside of work. 2"- 3" heels (mid heels) are great for comfortable walking, as long as you have a chunky heel and non-pointy toe. With a pointy toe, it would be good for every day use where you are not walking great distances. For higher heels, there is only one shoemaker...Manolo Blahnik. He does the thin heel, but SO comfortable. I have purchased shoes in many of the big named companies (Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, YSL, Prada, etc), and the shoes which I will pull out for evening where I will be standing for hours are my Blahniks.
