Anyone had a tattoo to disguise scarring?

I have a cluster of quite a lot of old, flat, white scars on my inner, upper arm and, frankly, I'm sick of the sight of them. The DC are also starting to ask questions. Does anyone have any experience of having something similar done?

I like good, well executed tattoo on other people but it's not something I've considered for myself before. But yeah, I'd really like to do something to disguise / detract from the scaring.

I've seen some photos of white tattoo which quite appeal but it seems to be a relatively new ink so maybe not so good in the long term?

Obviously if I did decide to go ahead I'd do loads of research, visit a host of artists and save up a small fortune before committing.

I'm thinking of doing the same. If you get a very good tattoo artist I think it works fine. Not the same I know but last year I had a dodgy old tattoo covered over after quite a few places saying they wouldn't touch it. I suppose some artists are more confident/experienced than others as I've also heard of people saying they won't cover scars etc x

Oooo I haven't seen those white tattoos before, not sure if I like them or not

That first white tattoo looks a bit odd over her freckles, I agree.

As to drawing attention to the area, well, I stupidly did that already by scarring it...

I think up close I like it, but not sure how it would look from a distance.

Have you used silicon patches OP?

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 20/05/2013 14:44

I've just asked DP, who is a professional tattoo artist, about this and he said tattooing on scars depends on the scars IYSWIM. So your best bet would be to talk to some tattooists near you for their opinions.

He also said that white tattoos can have a tendency to turn yellow over time, just so you know.

HTH.

The white tattoos do look a little like scaring. But, I do have scarring at that time of my life is a part of me, even though it's long gone. It seems somehow right Confused

Haven't tried silicone, no. But they are very 'good' as scars go. Totally flat and white, I don't think they could be improved.

X post fizzy. Thank you, that's good to know. Maybe I will need to go with a coloured thing. I certainly won't be rushing into anything with a random tattoo artist. No chance.

Oh right, silicone helps with flattening them and redness, no good for you then.

I do. I have a manga girl on my lower arm to cover self harm scars from when I was a teenager, I don't love the tattoo but I had it done when I was 18 as the scars were depressing me (irony eh?).

The worst of it is covered in white and very barely noticeable and some has pink over and this worked well too.

My scars were very deep so you can still see some raised bits but they are not instantly noticeable.

I could post a picture later when the phone charges if you like?

I have tattoos and a lot of scars, though my tattoos don't cover them except where they do accidentally iyswim.
I was warned about colour bleeding and every scar needs to be assessed before you do anything. I would go to a number of tattooists and see what they say.
A friends has a white dove on her arm and that looks great and is a lot less obvious than my black ones.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 20/05/2013 15:01

Forgot, I also have a hello kitty and clouds Blush covering scars on my thigh, it worked well there as well.

Arf at sharkbite.

I've been considering it for my SH scars, specifically one on my upper arm which is deep and wide (weirdly the far more numerous and obviously SH ones on my lower arm don't irritate me as much Confused)

I'm not sure exactly what I'd get though, can't afford it any time soon anyway!

I've heard it works best if the tattoo artist designed the tattoo around the scar pattern so that if any bleeding or blurring occurs it's hidden in the design.

I tell the kids I fell through a window.... so far they haven't queried how many windows I must have fallen through to end up with quite so many scars Hmm
