Foundation brush recommendations?

DuvetHog · 10/05/2013 22:00

Just that exactly....!

I use EL Double Wear & an old ecotools bamboo foundation brush that has seen better days and is looking a bit yak.

Any recommendations for one that will wow me?

Real techniques stipple brush is really good IMO.

You can pat foundation on as well as 'brush' it in.

I used to use ecotools too but find the stipple brush gives a better finish.

Some people say you use more foundation with this brush but I found once I got used to the technique I was using no more than before.

ComtessedeFrouFrou · 10/05/2013 22:18

The body shop brushes are good

Arisbottle · 10/05/2013 22:21

Boots No7 is very good as as the real techniques ones.

FattyMcChubster · 10/05/2013 22:32

Second vote for real techniques stipple brush. You kind of 'swirl' it on. Brilliant finish with it. YouTube a tutorial.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 10/05/2013 22:33

Mac stipple brush is brill.

comelywenchlywoo · 10/05/2013 22:34

Boots No7 - If it's good enough for Lisa Eldridge, it's good enough for me.

rubylovescheese · 10/05/2013 22:54

body shop.

BinksToEnlightenment · 10/05/2013 23:42

I hear Crown brushes are pretty splendid

Nombrechanger · 11/05/2013 00:03

3rd recommendation for real techniques brushes.

DuvetHog · 11/05/2013 18:00

Mac is probably going to be out of my ££ but will definitely look at real techniques, body shop & no.7.

I see real techniques does a set of brushes (core collection or something??) but it doesn't contain the stippling brush. Is this the best brush for foundation or would the brush in this kit be better?

If you were going to purchase which one would you pick?

I have a full collection of MAC brushes but mostly use my real collection stippler. I have the core collection as well. Stippler is good when you want a light effect, I use it with bb cream

Arisbottle · 11/05/2013 18:06

If you look up the pixiwoo videos on you tube you will get advice on their brushes.

squoosh · 11/05/2013 18:21

Real Techniques but not their stippling brush. Get the Expert Face one, far superior.

I use the elf stippling brush. I had to re-glue the metal part to the handle after maybe six months but the brush works very well. For the price, some people would have bought a new one.

bulletproofgerbil · 11/05/2013 20:24

I have the real techniques stippling one but not overly impressed with finish. Especially on my nose! It sort of goes streaky and not smooth there. Could be my weird skin though.

ZacharyQuack · 12/05/2013 03:04

The foundation brush in the Real Techniques core collection set is very narrow and mine is quite scratchy. I don't like it, but do really like their Expert Face Brush (like rubbing foundation in with a teddy bear paw) and their Foundation Brush (the one they sell individually which has an angled head).

The Core Collection has the excellent buffling brush and contour brush and the useless wee foundation brush (might be ok as a concealer brush, but mine is too scratchy to use round my eyes) and detail brush (might be ok as a lip brush, but I never use one).

squoosh · 12/05/2013 03:40

It's all about the Expert Face Brush.

squoosh · 12/05/2013 03:40

love the 'teddy bear paw' analogy btw.

DuvetHog · 14/05/2013 22:51

Right, the expert face brush / teddy bears paw is on route to me!

Another S&B sheep item.....Baaaaaaaa!!

Real Techniques stipple brush is fab, think I paid a tenner from Amazon.

bugabee · 03/07/2013 17:23

As an owner of many brushes including mac, crown, stila, real techniques to name but a few I'd say go for the real techniques expert face brush. It's a great all rounder for many foundations and different formulas, the stippling brush is better for a very shear finish. It picks up less product and then you apply a bit more pressure to buff it in with the shorter brissles. The core collection on a whole is really good though the contour and buffing brushes I'd say would be worth the price alone. What else is great about those brushes is they are so easy to clean and dry faster than any of my other brushes. xXx

BeckyBrandon · 03/07/2013 17:39

Defo Real Techniques. Their brushes are brilliant value as well. I'm sure you can get a core collection for £20.

FluffyDucky · 03/07/2013 17:44

You can use your money off voucher for No7 against the brush too

valiumredhead · 03/07/2013 18:02

Real technique!

Vibbe · 03/07/2013 18:08

I have loads of foundation brushes - the classic ones from MAC (190) and other brands, stippling brushes from MAC (I think it's the 130 which is smaller, but had it recommended for foundation - prefer it for liquid blush though) and Real Techniques (the RT stippling one is great to be fair), but my current favourite is the expert face brush from Real Techniques - it's quick and easy, doesn't streak and makes the foundation look very even and perfect on.

The buffing brush is nice too, but I prefer it for buffing in bb cream if I've applied it with my fingers and is uneven on the skin.

I do find that the RT ones are a bit harder to get clean, but it could be down to them being quite dense.
