Where do people my age (30's) buy outfits for weddings?

I need an outfit for my brother in laws wedding. Everyone there will either be dressed in something from Coast ( all the "younger people" - Dh's cousins etc) or Debenhams (MIL, aunts etc).

Normally for weddings etc I get something from Jigsaw, French Connection or similar but I'm coming up absolutely blank.

Everything seems quite short (I'm 5'8 - legs ok beneath the knee but I'd rather skirts didn't bare my knees too far!) or too old/mumsy.
Maxi dresses make me feel like I'm wearing a sack.

Does anyone have any suggestions - somewhere I haven't looked maybe?! I'm a size 12, 32FF with a bit of a tummy. I'm also ridiculously fair skinned!!Possibly an impossible task.

Chocolate Big patterns slightly scare me! I do love the jacket - looks like it would get repeat use too. i do hate how dresses for weddings often only get one outing.

I'm 5' 6" and it comes to just slightly below my knee, looks very cool with tan wedges!

That's a beautiful dress Pinkflipflop. Adrienna Papell has some gorgeous ones.

Thanks Pink , might have to pop into JL at the weekend and explore further. I'm now getting sucked further into coast......

I'm late 30s and buy from Coast (although you do run the risk of someone else turning up in the same thing). I also wear wedding outfits more than once!

My husband has a huge family (50 + cousins) all of whom go to the same weddings. They all live near each other so can liaise with each other to make sure there isn't anyone wearing the same thing. Almost all of the cousins will wear coast. Because there are so many cousins in their 20/30's there are a lot of weddings, and it isn't the done thing (my MIL assures me) to wear the same dress again around the same people. i have at least two coast dresses and a Karen Millen one that have only been out once.
For some reason they all wear dresses. I saw a lovely pair of broderie anglaise trousers in Jigsaw but I can imagine what MIL would think/say!

Re the Julia dress. It looks sold out in navy but what about the dark turquoise? I bet that would look amazing with your hair.

OwlMother · 02/05/2013 22:36

Rosie You're right, the turquoise is nice, I tend to go towards navy as the safe option - should maybe branch out! Might add LK Bennett to my list of shops to pop into on Saturday!

How about hiring a dress? Then you won't have to worry about repeat wear? this one would look fab with red hair?

FairPhyllis · 03/05/2013 05:05

Why don't you try ModCloth? You can select longer lengths as a search option and you'd have a huge selection of unusual things to choose from. You'd have to order and try on though.

Lacy
colour block
Turquoise
Turquoise 2
Would look fab with your hair
Know you are scared of pattern but I love this
Dots
This is what I would buy if I were going to a wedding this summer

I am MOB later this month and I hate MOB style outfits. So I am going for a 1940s inspired look in a mid calf length plain red Ted Baker dress ( similar to the Reiss taupe someone linked to ) . With a very large silver hat, silver faux fur stole and buttoned gloves, pearls and seamed stockings .

As the dress is plain I'm hoping to be able to wear it again .
