Its a good cut but its an average hairdressers chosen for a trim rather than a new look.
It serves me right for not checking but I never THOUGHT that anywhere in these parts charges that much.

about £36 Toni & Guy in 1997/98 (pre DS) I used to go fairly regularly but this was the highest price for a wash & cut.

I had bum length hair. They made me stand because the seat wouldn't go up high enough.

Wasn't an earth shatteringly good haircut either

I've now found an even better stylist, much closer to home, and he only costs me £28. Probably works out the same, over the year, as I manage to get there more often, but my hair looks better as a result (it's very short and grows fast!)

was about £50 at andrew collinge in liverpool, was worth it at the time as it was after i'd had a really bad cut previously and had spent months growing it out till it was long enough to re style.

cheapest and best ever cut was £10, also in liverpool but at the andrew collinge graduates salon, staffed with trainee's and recently qualified, was the best hair cut i've ever had. not lived in the area for a while now so don't know if it's even still there.

Around £40 I think. It was at an Aveda salon but up north. It was ok but I didn't love it.

Best haircut I've ever had was £27. I told the guy he could do what he liked with it, he seemed a bit nervous about whether I meant "I'd like a trim" or actually meant he could do what he liked so I pointed to a few pictures in a magazine that were drastically different. He was really happy to be able to do what he wanted and I loved it the fact he was gorgeous with pushed up sleeves and a stutter had nothing to do with it When I eventually decided I wanted a change, I wasn't as keen on the fairly plain cut I got so stopped going there.

My current hairdresser is one of my neighbours and has converted her garage into a salon. I love her cuts, she trims my kids for free and gives me spare fish fingers if I'm there when her kids are having their tea all for the princely sum of £15. Although I give her £20

My wonderful stylist there went off to work at Aveda HQ in the states and, though I'm happy with where I go now, do sometimes feel drawn back to Aveda - I think that 'Aveda smell' must be addictive! But don't know who's good there now.

Not sure about a cut - the most I've paid for cut & colour combined has been just under 120 euro, and I nearly fell over when I got the bill. My hair looked lovely but it was all in the colour - the cut itself was a TRIM.

That said - I've gone back there since and probably will again. I only get my hair done about twice a year. The expensive place is local, the stylists are really nice - genuinely glamorous but not sneery - and the magazines are really high-art-fashion. Lovely.

My hair isn't at all easy and the right cut is so important as it's with you the whole time. So I'm actually prepared to pay what does sound like a lot for the right cut - used to go to a hairdresser at Aveda where I'd pay £150, for example. Though I pay less than that now. Have also paid quite a lot in Paris and Milan.

But the highest I've ever paid was for cut and highlights in a well-known West End salon. Let's just say there wasn't a huge amount of change from £500 - particularly after adding in the extortionate extras like £5.00 for a bottle of water, and £20 plus for a 'treatment' I hadn't requested. And I wasn't happy with the cut - OK but not very easy to maintain - or the colour - far too ash-blonde!! Even though colour is supposed to be their speciality.

Felt really ripped off. One of my friends still goes there and loves it but not me!

About £45, in a salon that uses Aveda products, and yes, it's worth it! I have tricky hair and I get a good cut, plus they are all lovely. Some salons seem to be entirely staffed by snotty buggers so this one is a blessed relief.

I have had some terrible haircuts at other salons (Saks - sodding well scalped me the day before my graduation) so when I find a good'un, I stick to them.

£98, this week. Another Aveda Covent Garden addict here. I really don't know what I'd do if I had to give it up - am currently thinking of a serious downshift in income (to do something I love) but will hang onto this expense as long as I can. I would feel really self-conscious with a non-sharp haircut - and yes, it is hugely psychological. It's the only thing I don't stress about in the mornings unlike clothes, shoes, face, body, none of which are on a par for cost or quality.

Plus, cut man and colour lady are both great people to catch up with.

I accidentally paid £40 once and bitterly regretted it. Had booked with a junior stylist for £15 (which I thought was pricey but was going for a restyle) but when I arrived I was told she was ill, but was offered the Head Stylist instead. "Ooh, bargain", I thought. Until I got the bill. Queried it and was told, rather snottily, that I had had the Head Stylist and that was what he cost. Did a half-hearted argument but paid up and left. Never to return. Haircut was good but not worth £40.

I cut it myself now. Layers and everything.

I am 41, and frankly can count the number of good haircuts I've had on two hands. I've got curly hair and it's really quite tricky to find someone who understands how to cut it. The guy who cut it at Aveda has curly hair himself and so knew exactly what to do with it. I nearly cried when I saw how good it looked.

I'd honestly pay twice that for a decent cut. Luckily because it's long-ish I only need to go every 3-4 months.

ha ha ha ha! i am gonna have to do my pelvic floor exercises again because I burst out laughing at £250 for a mullet and then having to crawl back the next day for a 'mulletectomy'. omg, sorry to laugh but i hope you got £250 worth of a good story for your friends out of that one. i had a similar episode at a hairdresser who charged £30 and had english as her second language and there was a breakdown in communication. It was over ten years ago and I still remember the PTSD. Next time, I give up on trying to save a tenner. I'm going to the hairdresser I know can cut it well for 45.

I treated myself to a £250 cut with a celebrity hairdresser for my 30th. I wanted that 'i finally look like the chic adult me!' moment. He gave me a mullet. Think somewhere between Linda McCartney in the Mull of Kintyre video and Kevin Keegan, circa 1982.

I left the salon in shock, still reeling from his G-list name dropping, then burst into tears because i hated it so much. Friends made me go back the next day for a mulletectomy with some lowly minion. At that point I looked like Glenn Hoddle but frankly it was an improvement.

Now I get my hair cut for £35 by a stylist who's Aveda trained but works for a local salon. Best it's ever looked.
