Nail varnish remover - what do you use?

I used to get my nails gelled but got fed up with the expense, maintenance and got bored with having the same colour for 3 weeks so had it all removed and gone back to normal nail polish

I've had Mua in red on for a few days and I can't get the bugger off

I've got Superdrug nail polish remover and gone at it with cotton wool pads and cotton buds but it's stubbornly hanging in there and where I have got it off my nails are quite stained

Any recommendations?

I like to use acetone free nailpolish remover, smells less, and doesn't damage your nail and skin in the long term.

Yes, this stuff is acetone free too. It's supposed to quickly remove all sorts of nail varnish.

Took forever to get it off.

Might try paint stripper next time

I use Lidl's blue one. It has yet to fail me. Just make sure you get the blue one, the pink one is vile!

Did you use a base coat? I find it comes off easier if I have. I don't like the acetone free ones personally - I don't think they're as effective.

Bourjois magic nail remover

I got this when on holiday in France last year, its BRILLIANT and last for ages, even removes those stubborn glitter polishes. Best one I've tried yet.

Am over the moon to see they now stock it over here, spotted it in Boots the other day

Then remove it with any old shit from Boots.

I have a tip though. Use cheap panty liners instead of cotton wool. You can pour a load of remover into it and it soaks it up, saving on replenishment and spills. Then it doesn't have any of the little loose threads you get covered in when using cotton wool balls.

I had a white base coat on, but the red was quite red so has seemed to bleed through

I did eventually manage to get rid of the staining but it took longer than the whole gel removal thing, which is why I binned the gel in the first place. Typical!

I'll hunt out the Borgois one. Will try the panty liner tip too

Ooooh, panty liner tip is excellent!

I use pure acetone as it takes one sweep rather than scrubbing with NPR for ages. I always wash and moisturise straight afterwards.

yep acetone free nail polish is the best to use. you can get places own brand, such as superdrug, so really affordable and good remover.

The bourjois one is amazing. I've never found anything else that comes close. They only annoying thing is that because of the pot design, it doesn't work for toes!

Red is always a bugger to get off nails. Because of the pigment catching on skin and cuticles. You just have to remove all once then follow with clean cotton wool (I use pads) abd fresh remover, that should get rid of the vast majority of the red polish.
