Ugly red bumps on the back of my arms :( How do I get rid?

Somethingtothinkabout · 14/04/2013 17:59

Has anyone else had these? They are on the back top of my arms in a redish, purplish patch. They look rough, but don't feel rough.

My arms are fairly scrawny and I am frighteningly very pale so that might not help Sad

I have 5 weddings to go to over the next 3 months and I need to get rid of them before then as all my dresses are short sleeves.

Anyone have any ideas? I'll try anything.

TIA Thanks

Iirc, someone on here once got rid of them by using the flexitol heel balm on them - something to do with the urea content sorted them out. Worth a go?

Old thread with ideas

Massage in extra virgin olive oil, 4 times a day. And a microfibre cloth to exfoliate - not a pricey dermaflannel (£12 wtf) but you get 5 for £1.50 from Tesco (value ones, nice and soft so they're suitable for skin). I also hear that Boots own brand version of Flexitol is brilliant, and doesn't smell peculiar Smile

Somethingtothinkabout · 14/04/2013 18:17

Dame for some reason I read your post as being about some sort of heel pumice stone and was confused when I googled it. Blush It's definitely worth a try. I also once had a face mask that apparently had urea in it - might dig it out and try that too.

Thanks for the link!

I might take a photo of them and compare after a week or two so I can see if it's making any difference.

Thanks, WhatamI, I'm on it!

My only extra virgin olive oil is infused with garlic so I'll need a new one or I'll smell peculiar anyway Grin

Mine go when my arms get out in the sun

Laquila · 14/04/2013 20:09

Exfoliation and sunshine will help. Also, Palmers Cocoa Butter skin-refining moisturiser - the ones in the blue bottle with AHAs in it.

shopafrolic · 14/04/2013 20:29

Flexitol heel balm and exfoliate

PirateShit · 14/04/2013 20:31

I had this last year and I exfoliated in the shower every day and brushed them with a body brush and it went away. The brush was from body shop I think. I still use it occasionally on arms and legs, supposed to be good for cellulite too!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 14/04/2013 21:03

I've had this. Just repeating other posters advice - exfoliate and moisturise
I have dry skin and it really is impossible for me to over moisturise, have been know to put it on 4 times a day, it really helps.

flexitol

fulltimeworkingmum · 14/04/2013 21:37

Keratosis pilaris. You are genetically pre-disposed to it. Good exfoliation and moisturisation will minimise it.

Tigglette · 14/04/2013 21:58

Deficiency in essential fatty acids can cause bumps on the backs of arms. Mine pretty much disappeared when I started taking an omega 6 supplement.

CarpeVinum · 14/04/2013 21:59

Dermaflannel.

Tis magic.

If it's out of stock keep an eye out for when it comes back and grab one quick. Bloody things sell out really quickly.

awaywego1 · 14/04/2013 22:17

Mine are loads better since I had to go gluten free-although it's a big change for a smallish problem maybe reducing wheat might help a bit.

Abzs · 15/04/2013 14:42

I second (third/fourth?) the exfoliate and moisturise plan. I've had this since I was a child and moisturising the proverbial out of it is the best solution.

Once the moisturising starts working, get out in the sun in short sleeves (and sun cream) as that helps too.

moongoddess · 15/04/2013 15:55

I found this link on pinterest www.thedoctorstv.com/videolib/init/6473

I haven't tried it yet , it's from America but if you watch through they have some home remedies they say work including anti-dandruff shampoo Shock

Somethingtothinkabout · 16/04/2013 23:04

Has anyone used that Soap and Glory 'The Scrub Of Your Life'? That's the exfoliating scrub I have but I'm not sure it's aggressive enough?

I think the moisturising and scrubbing is helping though, and I'm going to get that heel cream this week too.

Supplementing with Omega 3 and Vit A will get rid of them quite quickly

kiwigirl42 · 17/04/2013 11:42

flexitol got rid of mine. bought it off amazon. smells like peppermint. the urea in it breaks down the collagen overgrowth thats causing the bumps. it is really effective

kicker · 17/04/2013 13:52

DD age 6 has this. I have been giving her cod liver oil (for an unrelated issue) and her skin has got a lot smoother. It's not cured but it's a lot better. I think the dietary route is the way to go.
