It's v. nice. Petit Bateau were the first sleepsuits I ever bought for ds and I loved them. But I got them in the sale Grin

But I got ds a fab Bon Bleu raincoat off ebay last year for £2.50 - he's still wearing it this year!

alexsmum · 14/05/2006 12:43

thanks puff! when i posted i was all buzzed up because it was lovely.i really wasn't expecting a slating about costSad
i went everywhere lokking for a cheaper one but couldn't find anything anywhere near as nice.probably one of the only times in my life i've bought exactly what i wanted despite the price.even my wedding dress was a copy of the expensive one i couldn't afford.

£50 is a lot for a child's raincoat though! And in your first post you did say it was expensive Smile

alexsmum · 14/05/2006 12:46

i also said it was gorgeous!

ohhh I'm not slating you, alexsmum.

It is your money so you can do what you want with it.

I just think you're a bit mad...that's allWinkGrin

tweetyfish · 14/05/2006 13:35

I personally think petit bateau are worth their weight in gold and if you like the coat then an't see a problem. It'll last you ages, their stuff is so well made.

I paid £30 for DS's pyjamas last year (bought 2 in the end) because I know how good, comfortable and how well they last.

Enjoy it Alexsmum!

Socci · 14/05/2006 13:53

ooh I love petit bateau stuff. I often have to buy designer jeans for dd1 because they are the only ones that don't fall down (like Tokyo Angel). IMO although £50 seems like a lot often you do get what you pay for and the more expensive stuff will last through two children and still look as good as new ime.

I love the raincoat btw alexsmum.

GDG · 14/05/2006 14:39

I would only spend that on a coat I knew I could pass down through the 3 boys! At that age anyway. Like someone else said, they can get lost easily plus I'd be thinking 'oh no, don't go down taht muddy slide in that' and that' sno way for a child to live.

I've got one very similar in beige that Jools bought for ds1 in M&S - it's still going strong and this year ds3 is wearing it!

Hurrah for 3 same sex kids!

GDG · 14/05/2006 14:40

£50 for kids jeans.

Sense than money more - rearrange.

Caribbeanqueen · 14/05/2006 14:48

alexsmum - my dd had that coat, she got 2 years' wear out of it and it is a fab coat Smile

cod · 14/05/2006 14:48

i am sorry but i SO want this thread to be about adult clothing and keep clikcing on it thinking it is

satine · 14/05/2006 14:51

My mum bought that coat for my ds in a sale - it lasted him 2 years, and now my dd has been wearing it over the winter and it still looks great. She'll have it for the rest of the year, and then I'll pass it on - well worth it!

fairydust · 14/05/2006 14:56

you like it
it fits him
can't see the problem it cost £50 so what as long as he wear it and it's not shoved in the back of the wardrobe.

ds has just gone off to school in his new coat toaday and he looked so scrumptious that i could have eaten him there and then.

puddle · 15/05/2006 10:30

My ds had that coat (my mum got it for him from the PB sale shop. I ebayed it recently for a very good price!Think of it as an investment.

Agree with you it is gorgeous.

swedishmum · 15/05/2006 10:45

Bought dd a very expensive coat about 5 years ago. Dd2 has it now (for the second year) and it's still hugely admired. Cost per wear plus the sheer pleasure of having something beautifully stylish means it was a bargain, even at £80+!

arfishymeau · 16/05/2006 07:59

Sounds fab alexsmum. Smile. I agree with puddle - you will get use out of it with 2 DSS (and love seeing them in it) and then be able to sell it for a fortune on Ebay. Sounds like a great buy to me!

Filyjonk · 16/05/2006 08:09

it looks fab

and its nice to have a few bits that just make them look so cute for photos.

£50 worn every spring, summer and autumn for say 2 years works out at around 70p a week.

Its not like a jumper which only gets worn once or twice a week, after all.

Doubt you'll be regretting this purchase when you're old and grey. You'll just remember how lovely they both looked.

lanismum · 16/05/2006 08:39

think its a lovely coat, bet he looks very sweet in it Smile just remember to put his name tag in it though.............................

Enid · 16/05/2006 08:42

I spent £50 on a gap coat for dd1 this winter

actually if it goes through all three girls thats only £16.67 each

gigwig · 16/05/2006 09:20

i got this coat for ds last year, it is lovely and great for spring/summer rain. I love the blue lining material instead of it just being the plastic yellow.

I did feel wierd about buying it cos of the price but it has been worth it, still looks great a year later - I bought a slighly large size for ds. Actually used gift vouchers I got when DS was born but still felt I had to justify myself!

fairyjay · 16/05/2006 09:52

I should think you needed cheering up alexsmum - and shopping normally does it for me.
I don't think it hurts to go made occasionally!

megglevache · 16/05/2006 09:54

I bought an identical one for ds in Gap, I think it was about £15.
They do look gorgeous on and they last well too.
