Want to buy some really good straighteners, cannot really afford GHD but want some good ones, my hairdresser suggested Tresemme Proceramic ones, has anyone ever used these?

I will end up getting GHD but probably for Xmas Sad

I recently bought \link{http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&referredURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.argos.co.uk%2Fwebapp%2Fwcs%2Fstores%2Fservlet%2FSearch%3FstoreId%3D10001&referrer=FG13P&searchTerms=4425052&params=P9242\these} as my hair is very frizzy and prone to static and I think they are fab.

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2006 19:17

They really are better, and worth the money if you can possibly afford them. You sometimes see decent second hand ones on eBay, would that be worth a try? They are very long lasting so IMO would be a good bet to get second hand.

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2006 19:18

Sorry, meant GHDs are IMO the best.

apronstrings · 12/05/2006 19:28

love love love mine - have lasted 3 years so far. my only other experience is of very cheap ones and they really didn't work on my willful hair.

crazydazy · 13/05/2006 08:52

Thanks everyone, yes my hair is very fine and just don't look smooth enough with the ones I have, I have had my hair cut into a bob and the only it looks nice is if its properly straight.

Wanted them for my hols but if I am having GHD will have to wait until we get home.

Thanks Franny will look on Ebay, they were all new the last time I looked though and somebody was selling some faulty ones!

I've had my GHD's for 4 years now and still as good as new. Tried lots of other brands and none as good so I would say worth every penny (think cost per use)...

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/05/2006 23:08

I have just bought the "Wet2 Straight" ones (not GHD) from Amazon. About 35 quid, can be used on wet or dry hair. V quick way of drying my unruly locks, and hair very soft and shiny (better condition than normal).

mummylovesus · 13/05/2006 23:11

I love my ghd's I got mine as a gift as I couldn't afford them myself but I would sooooooooo save up for them if I needed to now as they are magic.

fob · 13/05/2006 23:12

had ghds for 4 yrs and still cant go a day without using them. worth the money imo.

emsiewill · 13/05/2006 23:18

I have Tresemme Proceramic. I think they're OK, but my hair is a real nightmare, naturally frizzy, and currently dyed blonde, so even more prone to frizz. So although they are good, I don't know if I'm in a position to really give an honest review...the only time my hair looks really straight is when it's done by a hairdresser.

My hairdresser swears that GHD are the only ones to use - but couldn't really give me a concrete reason when asked. She said things like 'they heat up in 7 seconds' (hmmm, I think I can wait maybe as much as 10 to 15 seconds) and 'they're just the best'. So I wasn't convinced by her professional opinion - I suppose the only way to really be convinced would be to use them myself and then compare.

One thing I would say though, is that it's worth paying for solid ceramic plates, rather than ceramic coated.

Not sure if I've been any help here...

GDG · 13/05/2006 23:40

YOU can't beat GHDs sorry - they are the best

Caligula · 13/05/2006 23:43

It's supposed to be something to do with the temperature - it has to reach 210 degrees.

But there are a couple of other straighteners on the market which do that - Kodo for one.

DP has just bought me the Tresemme Proceramic Jade ones, they were £50 Shock he bought them for me because we are going on holiday on Thursday and was moaning that I didn't want to take my old ones with me. Bless him Smile

I tried them last night and they were fairly good although a bit sticky on my hair to begin with....I think maybe at Xmas I will ask Santa for a nice pair of GHD's along with my PJ'S.

These will get me through for now. Smile

Thanks again everyone.

Took them back today!! I just kept turning them off by accident and didn't realise as the switch was on the top, damn annoying so got a refund.

Am going to take my old ones on holiday, just will take me longer to do my hair but never mind I won't stress about it on holiday.

DP says I can have some GHD's for xmas Smile

GHD's are def the best. I have some cheaper ones and they really are not so good (andrew collinge or something)

NotAnOtter · 14/05/2006 17:09

yes...the blokes who set up ghd live in my town i went to school with them - they must have a good markup on them Grin

apronstrings · 14/05/2006 23:33

yes NAOtter - but you have loved yours!Wink

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 14/05/2006 23:34

I sooooooooo want GHDs Envy

CountessDracula · 14/05/2006 23:35

ghd are the best imo

blushingmama · 14/05/2006 23:38

My hairdresser used GHD's for years then she bought the cheapiest I think Charles Worthington ceramic straightners for £20 and they have such a massive plate size that it takes half the time to do a full head of hair. I bought some too and have given my GHD's away.
