Are fascinators in or out?

For a wedding? I've never worn one but would rather that than a hat, or nothing. Or are they a bit outdated? I'm 34

Oh this has been done to death on MN. It is widely thought on MN that fascinators are Naff with a capital N but I think it mainly applies to the feathery ones.

Does it match or complement your dress/outfit? Do you feel comfortable in it? Wear what you like. I wore a mini hat fascinator thing with loosely curled hair for a wedding last year and didn't feel self conscious or naff.

I think them being naff depends on what they are worn with. If one will compliment your outfit then go for it. I only think they are naff when they clash with or overpower what clothes someone's wearing

Haven't got one yet but tried one on today and quite liked it.

I did actually try a pretzelhead one! Could definitely see why it was in the sale....

I am trying to keep them in because I spent money on one some years ago and only wore it once. Also I look daft in a hat.

Out as far as I am concerned, I don't like them at all. I'm going to a wedding for the first time in about 5 years this summer and will be either bareheaded or in a hat.

They may be 'out' fashionwise, but going to a friends wedding who doesn't give a stuff about what's 'in' or 'out' but just wants everyone to look lovely & dressed up, I would happily wear one if it looks right with the outfit.

In 5, 10, 20 years when she looks at her wedding photos who's going to remember if fascinators were in or out this year?

Though obviously, it depends on the friends & the wedding, & hats & other hair accessories will look just as lovely & if it makes you happy to wear what's in this year then there's nowt wrong with that.

I just don't like them either, on myself or others. Something just twee about them IMO - so as far as I'm concerned, they were never 'in'. Certainly they've been around too long now.

However, perhaps my 'twee' is someone else's 'fun and feminine'!

I don't like hats either as it happens - though admit the right one can look good on other people -so fully expect to be doing three weddings bare-headed this summer.

Lots of people have declared them Out Of Fashion - but I like them, not as stuffy as a hat. If you have one that you like, then wear it.

At my db's weeding this weekend there were 2 hats and 40 fascinators! I had a v simple M&S one which ds3 said looked like a satellite dish but did work well with the outfit.
