House of Colour confusion!!!

So I had my colours done a few days ago and I'm Autumn. However, I remember the consultant saying Autumn LEAF and I was wondering what the leaf bit relates to. Does anyone know? I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with the colour book I was given and to be honest I couldn't really 'see' what the House of Colour lady was seeing, but the other client on the course was agreeing with her.

The 'leaf' part refers to the colours you were absolutely amazing in (those that you had ** at 100% on your ratings page), probably things like moss, mustard, brick. Your consultant won't mind at all if you want to chat things through with her - it is a huge amount of information to take in in one go, especially if you struggled a bit to 'see' it.

Thanks for replying. I will probably email her to clarify a few things. I've sorted through my wardrobe into autumn colours (not very many) and non-autumn colours (loads) and I've tried wearing the autumn ones but if I'm honest I feel dull and just can't see anything amazing Confused. I'm not sure if I've just got to re-train my eye or if I'm getting it wrong. I've ordered some things from the Kettlewell website so I know they're definitely autumn colours so maybe that'll give me more confidence.

Yes I've got highlights. Brown base with some reddish brown highlights and also some golden blonde highlights but they've overloaded a bit and I'm wondering if I look too blonde. Mind you, the consultant covered my hair while doing the colours and even said my hair was the right colour but I really do think I've got too much blonde. Maybe that's it? I just feel so flat and honestly thought I'd feel more better!

Try buying scarves in your best colours - a cheaper way of refreshing your wardrobe.

NotEnoughJamOnTheBread · 31/03/2013 21:12

That's excellent advice Mad

Jam if you're feeling a bit meh about some of the autumn colours, stick to the most vivid and vibrant ones (geranium, grass, the teals, purple etc etc). And definitely email your consultant if you're feeling wobbly - she should be happy to help. Scarves are a great idea to help bring outfits into the right palette and have a good colour right next to your face.

I think that's my issue, I definitely feel very meh about some of the colours for autumn and I worry that I'm now going to be making future purchasing decisions on the basis of one persons opinions. If money was no object I would probably want a second opinion!!!! My double star colours are chestnut, tan, brick, apricot, apple-jade, rosewood, khaki, lizard grey, light olive, old gold, amber, mustard, heliotrope, kingfisher and peacock. I didn't expect to feel amazingly transformed overnight or anything like that but I also never expected to feel so doubtful. The funny thing is I'm great at making good decisions decorating my house but when it comes to me, I'm pretty clueless. I never feel quite pulled together iyswim?

Did you not see anything during the analysis, or did you actively disagree, iykwim? It is much harder to get to grips with if you don't see it during the class, generally HoC consultants are pretty good about going through it until you see it.

NotEnoughJamOnTheBread · 01/04/2013 15:29

I didn't disagree but I was honest and told her I couldn't see it, I told her I just kept being drawn to colours I like and couldn't see past them when she was draping me with the fabrics. She even struggled for a while to place me to be honest and took her time, thinking I may have been her first vibrant autumn before deciding I was an autumn leaf. She was very definite about it. She was very approachable so I had no issues there. The same thing was happening with the other client, she couldn't see it on herself and although I could see a difference it was more to do with the feeling that her crows feet kept sort of disappearing when 'her' colours were put on and her skin tone evened out. She agreed with the HoC lady when the autumn colours were on me. Also the other lady was done first so by the time she'd finished her and got started on me I was very conscious of the time as I had to get back to do the school run. Not that I was short-changed on my time slot, but I couldn't have stayed any later. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I'm full of doubts. I have emailed her to ask her to clarify the leaf description (which I understand now thanks to you Hopefully Smile) but I thought it was a gentle opener to beginning a polite dialogue which I will steer towards my doubts. Maybe this is quite a normal reaction and I'm supposed to feel better when I've lived with the correct colours for a while and learned how to use them?

It certainly took me a while to fully get to grips with my colours - for some people it seems to be an immediate 'wow' life changing moment, and for others it is a more gradual process, but with just as much life changeability at the end Smile

NotEnoughJamOnTheBread · 01/04/2013 17:23

Oh Hopefully that's really reassuring to hear. I thought I'd have a eureka moment but I'm obviously going to be more of a slow burner. Do you mind me asking what season you are and how long ago you had it done? Looking back did you make any mistakes even though you had your colour list to go by? Any advice gratefully received!

I'm an autumn (blue autumn, which means I ** in navy, peacock, kingfisher, forest green, dark olive, dark brown, purple and a couple of other randoms like lizard grey). I had a wardrobe sort out straight away and had literally three things that were 'right'. I think I got a couple of scarves and tops straight away and got into it like that. Made a few mistakes, notably buying Summer jade green instead of teal (mintier than autumn teal) and Summer mushroom instead of autumn browns (summer one is much greyer/softer).

cardoon · 01/04/2013 17:43

How do you decide if something is the right shade.......I stress about every purchase because I'm just not sure.....

I think I've done good until I check my swatches and then I just can't tell.....Sad

I am known for being a tad anal

Hopefully · 01/04/2013 17:51

cardoon I have previously found that using the words from the little workbook you get during the class (with the ratings in) can be more helpful than stressing over matching. But as far as HoC swatches go, it's about deciding whether the new item both tones in (not precisely matches) your wallet (does it 'sit' in the wallet comfortably?) and looks like it would go with the 'right' side of your wardrobe (dividing your wardrobe into right and wrong is a great way to get started with your colours, even if the right side is only 3 tshirts and you need to wear loads from the wrong side).

Hopefully · 01/04/2013 17:52

I mean the colour description words, on the first few pages of the wallet.

cardoon · 01/04/2013 18:10

ahh, i hadn't looked at that bit for a while....quite helpful to have the descriptions right enough.

ilovekizomba · 30/09/2014 21:02

Often thought of having my colours done but a) way too expensive b) terrified they'll tell me I'm autumn and I never wear autumnal colours (I think I'm a new category: faded winter) and c) I find it hard enough as it is to find clothes that flatter my shape (big bum, short legs, bingo wings, wobbly tum, saggy boobs) and don't cost the earth without having to try finding the right colour too!! An impossible task surely?
