Neutral lipliner

Hi, can anyone recommend a good neutral lip liner? I've been using the boots no 7 nude one as used a lot by Lisa Eldridge, but it looks a bit orange on me Smile

I was going to try Body Shop's one on a recommendation but I've not had a chance to pick it up yet

I've got the Body Shop Beech one (couldn't begin to think how long I've had it Blush but it's YEARS ).
I don't think they go off and when I sharpen it, I'm taking off the grubby used bit

BinksToEnlightenment · 25/03/2013 17:58

Oh me too on the ancient makeup. I've had a white eye pencil since 2006!

ItsintheBag · 25/03/2013 18:02

I have also been using beech by the body shop, since god was a boy.

I always go back to it.

kittysaysmiaow · 25/03/2013 19:22

Can't believe I forgot about the body shop beech. I used to use it when I was a teenager - don't want to think about how long ago that was Smile thanks, I will pay the body shop a visit Smile

There's a Sally Hansen clear lip-liner that is very cheap, long-wearing and goes with everything. There are usually UK sellers on ebay who charge roughly £3 per stick. The only thing to note is that it's a "reverse" liner - you draw exactly around the outer edges of your lips and blend slightly with your finger, and the liner resists any lipstick that tries to migrate over the line.

Havingkittens · 25/03/2013 21:03

MAC's Subculture is nice and neutral. Their best seller is Spice but I find that a bit too brown if you are pale. They also do one called Dervish which is more of a pinkish, natural lip colour.

Worried73 · 25/03/2013 21:28

There's a Natural Collection one in Boots that I've been wearing for years - can't remember colour but you'll know the one I mean when you see it. It's the perfect nude colour and its stupidly priced at £1.89 or similar! Grin

kittysaysmiaow · 25/03/2013 22:01

Thank you I will check those out as well, especially the MAC pinkish one, as a lot of the nude shades look too brown on me.

Lancome do a good nude-pink liner, can't remember the name though

MarianForrester · 25/03/2013 23:40

The Rimmel neutral one is also quite good.

OneLittleLady · 26/03/2013 00:13

Is lip liner really an essential? Sorry to derail a bit. I've never ever used it and haven't found my lipstick bleeds at the edges at all?

ItsintheBag · 26/03/2013 07:08

I have thin lips with no real shape so find a liner really good.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 26/03/2013 07:50

I like Laura Mercier Baby Lips, my lips are more on the pink than the brown side of things if that makes sense.

Havingkittens · 26/03/2013 09:00

Lip liner is not essential, no. Especially not if you prefer a natural, stained or glossy look. I would definitely recommend using it for darker lipstick, as it helps give a better shape. It also helps lipstick stay on longer, especially if you blend it into the lips rather than just leaving a line around the edge (which is not such a good look when the rest of your lippy wears off!). It's also really helpful to make the lips look a bit bigger if you have thinner lips, but always keep the inside of the line touching your actual lip. Lip liner which floats somewhere on the skin around the lips is a bad, bad look! It may look ok face on in the mirror in subdued lighting but, side on in particular, VERY WRONG INDEED!

kittysaysmiaow · 26/03/2013 09:22

Havingkittens Smileat lip liner on the skin round the lips! That's definitely not the look I'm aiming for.

Agree it's probably unnecessary for the majority of people. I like to use a little on my top lip as the lip kind of fades into the skin IYSWIM with no definition?

Kitty, that's the same issue I have with my top lip which annoyingly means a lot of lipsticks bleed on me Sad.

kittysaysmiaow · 26/03/2013 11:36

Yes same here. I think it can look a bit ageing actually. I feel tons better with a bit of liner on, it's just getting the shade right but hopefully one of the pinker ones suggested will be suitable.
