Can someone explain the mystique of linen?

Why is it meant to be smart when it crumples within 2 seconds of ironing it? And why is it always recommended for travel? I just don't get it...

It feels nice. It keeps you warm but is also cool if its hot. I don't care about crumpling- but i am a massive fabric snob.

Spanish has explained it well. As a natural fabric, it is more breathable and comfortable than the synthetic fabrics that are everywhere. Those fabrics will usually keep their shape much better.

I've never understood it either OP. Stiff and crunchy, nuisance to iron, makes any woman look 10 years older and makes any traveller to the Far East look hilariously colonial and OTT. The only nice bit I have is a linen silk mix.

I agree and would warn anyone against linen bedlinen as once used, nothing else feels as good imho ;)

lol - I agree with Spanish

Aaarghh, horrible itchy stuff, or is that my psoriasis!

I do seem to have a nasty reaction to it.

I've been wondering about this too, and what really distinguishes an Isabel Marant Tshirt priced at £80 from a linen tshirt at H&M?

I wouldn't pay £80 by any stretch, but the H&M ones are pitiful, at least in my local store.
