High quality polyester and breathability

OK I know I do go on about my hatred of polyester but having been told yet again in jigsaw how their polyester is very high quality and on twitter by them that its breathable - I am confused.

Is high quality polyester breathable - is this possible?

No, it's utter rubbish.

I returned a jumper to Jigsaw today, less than 6 months old and a hold has appeared on the cuff. Was £110. The staff looked at me as I was mad to expect a longer shelf life.

It's been sent for 'test's' WTF?!

FrugalFashionista · 22/03/2013 18:51

Have you seen polyester sports clothes? They are often woven in a perforated pattern. Polyester is plastic - otherwise you'd exercise wearing a plastic bag. If the Jigsaw clothes have holes in them, they breathe. Kind of Wink

Polyester can have wicking properties but is not breathable.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/03/2013 18:52

You see I think its rubbish and they're just trying to fob their customers off. We all know cotton is very expensive at the moment and good quality silk seems to be in short supply but honestly £89 for a polyester shirt is taking the p I think.

I'm intrigued as to what tests your jumper will undergo MIM Wink

I just find it difficult to see "polyester" and "high quality" in the same sentence.

It's not breathable (unless perforated). Other manmades can be though: eg viscose.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/03/2013 18:55

I did wonder about wicking as think some of DH's cycling gear has lots of polyester in it.

Am enjoying debating with them on twitter about this - they've said its breathable - I hope they retract or at least point me the right direction as to the research that proves this.

Or perhaps they think i intend to enter a cycling race in the polyester shirt so wicking is my top requirement.

Yes its when they say 'high quality polyester' that my face does this Hmm

I bought a gorgeous polyester top from Tesco today Smile I've been after a shirt exactly like this, but have an ironing phobia (so no cotton) and cba with dry-cleaners (so no silk) so it's perfect, really lovely and doesn't feel staticky, more chiffony. If it sticks to my sweaty pits I'll take it up with them.

Ironbluemayfly · 23/03/2013 06:58

You need to get a top designed for the purpose for a cycle race, not a fashion item.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/03/2013 07:24

Umm iron - you do realise I was joking about using it for cycling don't you? Smile

Jump - that's a pretty top and the right price for polyester - its they 'Emperor's new clothes' aspect of high quality polyester that I'm finding annoying.

No I didn't, it's still very early and I haven't put my humour chip in yet.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/03/2013 07:35

That's ok - I just thought you must think I'm a total loon planning on doing a race in a nice jigsaw polyester blouse Wink
