Is "designer" shampoo/conditioner better than bog standard?

Whenever I got the hairdressers, I always come out with sleek, straight, shiny hair, which looks lovely. My hair is fine and has a terrible tendancy to frizz, especially at the front and I have yet to find a shampoo that doesn't cost £15 a bottle (which the one the hairdresser uses seems to), which makes my hair look OK inbetween cuts. So, can anyone recommend a decent shampoo/conditioner for fine, frizzy hair that doesn't cost the earth. I can't really afford to just keep experimenting until I find a good one, so I tend to continue using whatever one I've bought even if my hair looks pants. Are those anti-frizz sprays any good? TIA

I have dry, frizzy hair and avoid washing as much as possible, probably do it only 2/3 times a week. I use tresemme and the Aussie conditioner but sometimes Herbal Essence. I find it works better it I mix it up a bit. I have stopped using John Frieda serum; it just doesn't do the job anymore so don't bother with the shampoo either.

I did love Aveda but using it every day started to make my fine hair lank. I bought some cheap Boots Expert shampoo on a whim and it's brilliant. I'm back on the Aveda for colour but using the Boots one every few days to remove build up.

Aveda conditioner isn't brilliant. Paul Mitchell conditioner is the best I've ever used.

I've tried many shampoos and conditioners in the past, and I honestly don't believe it makes a huge amount of difference whether the brand is expensive or cheap.

My hair is long, thick and very dry. A couple of years ago, my hair looked terrible, and I spent a small fortune on various conditioning treatments/ serums/ etc. nothing worked for long.

Then I bought a boar bristle brush (doesn't have to be expensive- mine is a denman), and it has transformed my hair! People even comment on my shiny hair, and I use tesco own brand shampoo and conditioner, rarely blow dry my hair and use no serums etc. I highly recommend it!

The trick is in the conditioner, I use a cheap shampoo and them a decent conditioner, I usually get herbal essences and they're fab, they're always on offer somewhere too!

I've recent started using biolage strengthening poo and condition which is sort of mid price (I also use keratesse etc) and I'm really REALLY impressed with it - I'm going to stick with it I think.

Another vote for Aussie shampoo/conditioner - I really like them.

My mum has similar hair to yours and loves Redken. She says you only need a little bit so it lasts ages and not as expensive as you think - not sure how much it is but obv more than bog standard stuff.

The best thing for my hair though is to wash it less often tbh.

I wash my hair as little as possible, sometimes going four or five days between washes and its the best thing I've ever done for my hair. So much less fizz and very few split ends now. I have very fine hair but I have lots of it and it's prone to frizzing. I have a decent trim every three or four months just to keep it in shape and use Tresemme shampoos and conditioners for coloured hair. I've found them to be just as good as the more expensive stuff.

Sorry - I'm so used to shampoo being referred to as 'poo' from another forum!!
