My hair...this could go really really well OR you guessed it REALLY REALLY BAD

So I stripped all the black out of hair as I wanted to go lighter about 2 weeks ago. The product worked quite well, only leaving a very dark brown on the ends of my hair (probably due to product build up) but very dark dirty brassy colour Sad and it does not suit my skin tone.

So now I am attempting to colour it a rich red (not post box red!) However I am having to lighten it before I can go red, so I have now put a permenant "natural" blonde on it to then colour it red. Was this a good idea? Im starting to think not but with about 5 mins developing time left it's a bit late to go back! haha

I am either going to end up patchy and uneven, mail box red, or bald (my poor hair with all this product) Hmm

So place your bets ladies, what do you think will happen to it?

So then, whats's the verdict?

SofaCanary · 14/03/2013 18:28

You're a braver woman than me Grin

NeverBeenToMe · 14/03/2013 18:33

I hope you get your dyes on more evenly than I do. I found a huge grey stripe in my hair the other day Sad

DisappointedHorse · 14/03/2013 18:37

Oh I've been tempted to do this, I didn't think a blonde dye would work as a pre-lightener though.

How did it go?

mabongwen · 14/03/2013 18:50

Sorry it's been mad in my house! No mad dash to tesco for a black colour because...

nothing happened Sad the natural blonde did not do anything to the colour, so I decided putting the red on would be futile. I have since contacted a friend who is more clued up than me on this hair dying malarkey, as she has had every hair colour under the sun! She said "you need to actually bleach it, powder bleach and peroxide about a 40%" to get it light. So on the weekend she has agreed to do it for me, and said to keep it blonde for a while because this bleach will damage my hair and it will need to be nursed for a goood 2/3months [confised]

I will eventually get there haha!

Did you use colour b4 to strip the colour? I'd worry about peroxide on top of that - I think you need to rest your hair now, maybe add a semi permanent ie 8 wash colour to tome the brassiness and do intensive conditioning and then bleach after about a month.

Forevergirl · 15/03/2013 09:02

As a hairdresser please don't put bleach on top of colour before!!! It's ether/or not both. The bleach will react with the metallic salts that's in colour before.
Also never use bleach and 40vol/12% bleach shouldn't be use with anything higher that 9% in foil and no higher that 6% on the scalp

Arghh this fiasco is never going to end.

I need to lighten this hair for a show and go red. We normally have wigs but I can't be bothered with one, they fall off and are itchy!!

Sad Thinking now of cropping it all off, its currently shoulder length. Then ill just have a short dirty brassy colour that a wig won't be too bad over.
