Help, my face is a mess after acid treatment!

I did my 5th acid treatment on my face last night, exactly the same as I've done it before but last night it stunk and today my face looks just terrible! I've got lots of sore little red bumps all over my cheeks. To make matters worse it is my birthday this weekend and I have a big night out planned.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there anything I can do to help it go down? Any idea what's caused it?

I have to say I haven't noticed any remarkable effects from it so far but I was willing to see the 6 week's out in the hope it would make a difference - now I'm worried to do the last treatment!

Don't do another treatment. Your skin is telling you you've damaged it. Leave it alone. To soothe the reaction you could try something like E45 but if that doesn't start to resolve I would see your GP.

HoneyStAngelo · 13/03/2013 12:35

Treat as a chemical burn.

Personally I would not put anything at all on my face unless it gets worse in which case see your GP as already mentioned.

The goo news is that skin is pretty good at healing and whilst it may be red and sore today, providing you not aggravate it further there should be improvement each day up to the weeken.

Not be tempte to squeeze any bumps.

If its painful you could pop a flannel or soft cloth into a bowl of ice water and gently dab face but in all honesty I would leave your face well alone.

I put moisturiser on it this morning with an spf because that's what the instructions tell you to do. i've had to absolutly cake myself in makeup to come to work!

I think I have some sudocreme at home - would that help?

Bugger it - I thought this was going to help me get beautiful skin Sad

Luckily it's not painful at all, just a bit dry / tight feeling.

Either see your gp or do a honey face mask, which is known for healing burns.

sweetheart · 13/03/2013 12:53

is a honey facemask just rubbing honey on my face?

This happened to me. I complained and got my money back from the clinic for the whole series of treatments. They wanted to see photos though (cue the most unflattering pics in the world!).

I think the beautician hadn't neutralised the glycol properly and my skin was blotchy, red and sore. It was the day before my hen night. Niiiice.

If you go back into the clinic they can apply specialist creams to help soothe your face for free, too.

However if its a home kit then you need a cream with high aloe Vera. I used 12 hour cream though (couldn't get into clinic for their assistance because v busy prepping for hen guests!).

I wore lashings of foundation and managed to cover the damage ok Smile

Sorry just retread your post and now get that you did it at home!

Trip to your nearest beautician or loads of aloe Vera.

sweetheart · 13/03/2013 12:59

Lemon, how long did it take to clear up? I'm going out on Saturday so I have a few days. I think I have some aloe vera at home.

Yes, just put a layer of honey on your face, it's gret for burns. Aloe Vera is a good option too. Does your skin feel hot?

sweetheart · 13/03/2013 13:20

Not especially no - it feels quite dry and a little stiff and a little bit sore but not too much

Get yourself to your nearest B&Q and buy an aloe vera plant - they sell them for a few quid. Cut a piece off the plant, split it open and rub the gel on your face.

LemonPeculiarJones · 13/03/2013 13:24

It only took a few days Smile. Hopefully you'll be fine by then!

QuinnFabray · 13/03/2013 13:31

I usually get a bit flakey and tight and red after acid treatment, sometimes more so than others. I'd recommend La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume which you can get from Boots. It's magical soothing cream.

If you're not getting the results you were hoping for by now, I doubt the 6th treatment will work wonders, so give it a miss.

member · 13/03/2013 13:35

Or udder cream - if you order it asap from amazon, you'd get it by tomorrow.

cedge · 13/03/2013 13:35

The number one thing to do is to make sure your skin is hydrated.... so only wash your face once a day with ONLY water - no soap.
Then moisturise day and night. I use jojoba oil and it works great for me.

sweetheart · 13/03/2013 13:40

I've contacted the company - they've said to miss the 6th treatment. I'm so dissapointed - I thought this was going to give me radient / glowing skin and it hasn't at all. The other treatments made no difference and now this Sad

Thanks for the suggestions and advice.

What peel did you do?

sweetheart · 13/03/2013 14:31

30% glycolic acid peel

You might find that after your skin heals, which shouldn't take long, you WILL see a difference. I usually get a bit dry and flakey and then after that my skin looks really nice and radiant and clear.
