How to get big curls on thick just-below-shoulder-length hair?

Hello!
I am desperately trying to find a method to get my thick just-below-shoulder-length hair into big curls. I have tried nearly everything. I bought heated curlers (the babyliss ones), velcro rollers (didn't stay in my hair at all!) and a curl iron from John Frieda. Nothing works. Any tips and recommendations?

The Babyliss ones are not enough and the small ones don't do it for my hair.

I am looking for that kind of style:

how long were you leaving the hot rollers in your hair for?

SofaCanary · 13/03/2013 00:54

Did you use hairspray before putting in the rollers?

ThePigOfHappiness · 13/03/2013 01:42

Nothing worked on mine at all. Even hairdressers can't get the curl to hold. I just bought cheap clip in extensions and it does the job for a night out

I left the rollers in for one hour and now I didn't use hairspray. I'll give it a try.

Use a ton of hairspray or styling gel, I had a super one from v05 but cant remember the name of it.
Or try ragging it and sleeping with them in.

Use setting lotion and spray it lightly onto each section of hair before putting heated rollers in (spray, comb through, then put in rollers). It's trial and error, you may have to mix the setting lotion with water if it makes your hair too crunchy.

I leave the rollers in for as long as possible, four hours the last time I did this. Lots of hairspray as well, then a blast with the hairdryer on each one before I take them out, then more hairspray before separating curls with your fingers.

i have the same hair as you and i've found that i have to sleep in the rollers to make it curl! doesn't stay curled all that long either, as hair is wayyyyy too heavy!Sad

Babyliss big hair. I am good with make up but absolutely rubbish at styling my hair!

I blow dry my hair until its slightly damp then use the babyliss big hair to curl. I cup my free hand over the hair that is round the brush as it rotates.

When I first got it I couldn't do it and thought it was another useless buy but then I got it out again and spent some time getting the hang of it and got the hang of it!

Hi. I bought the Babyliss something 210 curler on Saturday, tried it and love it. Thanks for all your replies.
