LOL! Your time has not passed! I love mine, I am 41 too! I wore it all the time last year and I am looking forward to wearing it again this year when the weather gets warmer.

ArcticRoll · 12/03/2013 10:50

Buy one! I'm forty six and wear one-mind you I live in Brighton where there are many fellow mutton dressers!

pixiegumboot · 12/03/2013 11:01

OK cool so fit-wise? I imagine I'll never wear it zipped up so should it be slightly smaller so it doesn't hang like a box IYSWIM?

bunnymother · 12/03/2013 11:10

I think the main thing is to make sure it fits properly on the shoulders. And has narrow sleeves. Those details will make sure you don't gain bulk, I think.

pixiegumboot · 12/03/2013 11:13

what do you think about silver zip & studs (just the one stud on the collar) ? too much, too heavy?

OP posts:
badtasteflump · 12/03/2013 11:50

Definitely get one! I bought one recently and I love it - it goes with everything.

Yes to narrow sleeves and yes to a good close fit.

I bought mine here
I am tall with wide shoulders/long arms so I often have to go up a size to get long enough sleeves. This fitted perfectly in my usual size tho.

badtasteflump · 12/03/2013 11:51

I got the first one on the page I've linked to above... the studs are kind of matt dark silver, not shiny.

pixiegumboot · 12/03/2013 12:32

oh yes thanks I think that type of thing is what I am after. is the leather nice and soft?
I got the river island one (can't do links it's the one on their site labeled right loves) but I think the silver is too much.

RI loves bloody phone

JumpHerWho · 12/03/2013 12:47

I have the RI one, I love it Smile I think it's a bargain. Would have preferred an All Saints type one but £££.

pixiegumboot · 12/03/2013 13:14

yeah me too, or a whistles one!Grin

DialsMavis · 12/03/2013 14:25

No you shouldn't, get one for me instead Smile

Sonotkylie · 12/03/2013 14:56

Just bought a plastic one from H and M. I'm 46. Its the first time I've had one (which is why I got a cheap leatherette one) and its fantastic. I love it and I look great and even DH thinks so despite initial concerns about mid life crisis. Yes get one.

Facebaffle · 12/03/2013 15:04

So glad I spotted this thread. I was looking at leather look jackets in New Look last week (really nice material and not plasticky iyswim).

I'm 44 and was worried about the mutton thing but if I choose my outfit carefully then hopefully it will look ok.

Sonotkylie · 12/03/2013 15:17

If we all get them, then there's no problem ... I have mine, what's holding you up? Apart of course from the fact that its freezing cold and no one can think of anything none warming in this weather? Oh and of course the non leather ones are waterproof so perfect for summer!

pixiegumboot · 12/03/2013 15:47

don't the non leather ones make you all sweaty? only ask cause the last one I bought years ago was gross

OP posts:
Sonotkylie · 12/03/2013 16:26

I've only had it 4 weeks and its been to cold for sweat to be raised ... A fine point though and I suspect the leather ones are vastly superior in that way. I do have a leatherette knee length mac that I've had for years and years and its only been a problem in the most sultry weather

pixiegumboot · 12/03/2013 16:47

hmm I quite fancy the h&m fake suede jackets...maybe they won't be so sweat inducing

OP posts:
mrsrhodgilbert · 12/03/2013 17:19

I'm 48 and bought one from Whistles in January. I love it although its been too flippin freezing to wear it, other than a couple of nights out when running from car to bar! Looking forward to warmer weather.

badtasteflump · 12/03/2013 18:39

Hi the Barneys one I linked to is lovely and soft. Also when I ordered from them I got (I think) 20% off as it was my first order from them - I had to use a code (FIRSTTIME).

It's a lovely jacket Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/03/2013 18:53

I bought a chocolate leather one from Oasis last year and it is without a doubt my most worn and most loved item of clothing ever.

I do think that black ones and pleather ones are neither as versatile or as nice as real leather in beige, tan, grey or chocolate for example.

pixiegumboot · 12/03/2013 20:19

would you wear black boots with a chocolate one tho? this is the only thing that stops me with this colour.

other colours too light...snot, banana, snot-you get the idea!

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/03/2013 20:26

I do - I am hardly a style icon though. Tbh I just wear what I like. I wear tan boots with it too, leopard flats, red flats, silver flats, Converse-alikes, whatever.

JumpHerWho · 12/03/2013 20:30

I think it depends what colours you usually wear and your own colouring. I look shit in brown, and wear a lot of cool colours so black makes sense for me.

I had a pleather one before, it was a nice shape but I do think they look tacky so I chucked it to stop me wearing it, I really missed it hence getting the RI one - this - it has lovely slim sleeves and is a slim fit generally, I love it! And a total bargain, the pleather ones are £65 Hmm

shufflebum · 12/03/2013 20:46

I wish I'd bought one from Next last year, it was Mink in colour and would have gone with everything!
