I bought some Anthelios XL 50+tinted cream today.
Is it ok to use as a moisturiser under make up, or should I use a moisturiser too if it's more of a heavy duty sun protection thing?
I bought it to replace some clinique city block which I found rubbish.

Use another moisturiser first and then apply the sun block. DO NOT put foundation over Antihelios sunscreen and then go in the sun - the tints in the foundation can react badly with the sunscreen and you will go orange.

Ooh I got this too to replace City block. I adore it, it is a bit orange but once rubbed in it seems to warm up my complexion nicely. City Block made me feel like a glowworm Grin

Bonsoir or anyone else, would putting some powder over it be bad for the sunscreen effect?

Bonsoir · 08/03/2013 15:35

Powder is usually OK.

But generally speaking, mixing sunscreen with other creams is a bad idea.

IslaValargeone · 08/03/2013 16:33

Oh bugger, I was hoping I could use it under foundation. I didn't realise I could be risking oompa loompa status.

Do they do a nice ordianary moisturiser?

I interviewed one of the top dermatologists on this recently. She said essentially start with the thinnest stuff first - ie serum - and then put on the RP. Frankly the RP will be quite moisturising enough on its own.

Bonsoir · 08/03/2013 17:26

Did you also talk to the manufacturers? Manufacturers of cosmetics know more about what ingredients can and cannot be combined safely on the skin than do dermatologists.

motherinferior · 08/03/2013 17:46

But surely the manufacturers can only know this with, er, dermatological knowledge? What with it being a dermatological issue?

Bonsoir · 08/03/2013 17:53

No! Cosmetics manufacturers drive the industry, not dermatologists.

Another La Roche Posay q - they used to do a fab fab fab moisturiser called Hydranorme, does anyone know which one out of their range is the best equivalent now?

Bonsoir · 08/03/2013 17:57

Have you looked at their website?
